"We had a pretty clear vision of what we wanted this to collaboration to sound like since the beginning and the results didn’t disappoint. Japanese band Crystal’s mixture of YMO-esque Nippon naive Pop and kraftwerkian-influenced beats tends to accidentally give birth to a romantic sound very reminiscent of Latin Freestyle. On the other hand, Latin Freestyle, Pop and that particular brand of ‘80s pre-Miami Bass is an influence more and more present in UK producer Ikonika’s (Hyperdub) work. In other words we saw Freestyle as a common bond, a contextual bridge between two production units from two very different places and scenes. One does it without even paying attention, finding inspiration it its roots, the other flirts with it in a more conscious way while bringing it to the next level. We thought this was a match made in heaven and we wanted to bring these two approaches together. The result is 100% retro-futuro-Italo-piano-shoot’em-up melancholy."

A few years ago, Moby (born Richard Melville Hall) decided that it was time for a change so he packed up and moved from his beloved New York to sunny LA. This fresh, new outlook permeates his 11th studio album, Innocents. One day, as the story goes, he was riding around town listening to “Morning Becomes Eclectic” on local radio station KCRW, and he heard a Damien Jurado song come on the air — and the rest is history. 

“Originally, ‘Almost Home’ was a fully finished song,” recalls Moby. “But I love Damien’s approach to melody and lyrics so I gave it to him as an instrumental. What he did was much better than anything I’d come up with.”

Legend tells it that Jesse, the latest addition to the I’m A House Gangster camp, was born in a rundown motel in Little Havana (a small Latin neighbourhood in Miami) just minutes after being conceived. Son to a local pimp (who is oddly 10 years older than Jesse), Jesse was exposed to the art of Slangin' D as a young boy. His mother, who at that time was a stage dancer for a popular local rap group called the "2 Live Crew", would work many shows for these artists and would sneak Jesse in as often as she could. Jesse's first exposure to Bass Music and Ass Clapping made a huge impression on him. 

15 years later, Jesse applied his childhood experiences towards the development of a new visionary company known as "Mr. Nice Guy". Considered as one of Miami's most promising and forward thinking companies since Bang Bros. Jesse has managed to not only run this company but also star in several successful "Mr. Nice Guy" films including "Slangin' That D", "Tales From An 8th Street Motel" and "This Hoe Gonna Get Some Dick". Homeboy don't mess around, he means business.

Talking about his tracks for his debut I’m A House Gangster release, Jesse comments, “I made these tracks solely for listening pleasure while getting pleasured, so it's cool the rest of the world will now get to enjoy them as well. No Ghost-writers were used in the making of this EP.”

I ve selected 25 tracks which features vocalists (and some vocal samples) like Paul St-Hilaire and Benji. This is slowly meandering spacedub with deep, peaceful and dreamy lush ambient pads and dubby basslines. Though the old Rhythm & Sound influence is still clear—especially on the track Child was I—but what these producers are making truly feels fresh.
