This weeks Macondo Mix comes from Leeds-based Jordanian DJ and radio host Yasmeen, the brilliant mind behind SouqSounds; a fantastic project showcasing art and culture from the SWANA region and it’s diaspora. Through charity events and regular slots on Sable Radio and Narr Radio, Yasmeen is always creating spaces for open discussion and her shows always make for an incredibly fascinating listen, exploring everything from Turkish Cinema to experimental Sufi music in great depth. 

This week Yasmeen has once again put together a mind blowing selection of music, this time diving into the world of Arabic film scores;

 ‘Acid swells, and tableh drums, this hour mix travels across the Arabic speaking world showcasing film scores from Toufic Farroukh and Hany Mehanna, love songs from legends Warda and Bandaly Family and funky guitar riffs and organ work from The Scorpions and Saif Abu Bakr.’

Through orchestral textures, ambient electronics, and minimalist design, Avaline Ingels constructs a sonic architecture that feels both divine and human — precision guided by emotion.  
Piano, harp, and strings trace circular motifs while choirs breathe in golden ratios. Tempos shift by Fibonacci values, phrases extend by digits of π, and melodies evolve like galaxies forming. The album’s structure loops perfectly: the finale’s final drone blends into the prelude’s first chord, forming a seamless circle of sound.  
*The Endless Symphony* is not a story but a mirror of eternity — a composition that, like π itself, continues forever, revealing meaning only through motion.

MIMS is delighted to present the online premiere of "Currents" by JAB, close to 7 sublime minutes of deep soulful jazz, whose steady rhythms could either carry away our feet on the dancefloor, or lure our thoughts to drift away to its seductive groove.

Following the acclaimed 'Directions' EP and last year's popular '6 Degrees of Separation', the mysterious multi-instrumentalist JAB is due to return with brand new 'Currents' EP on March 19. 

Title track, "Currents" was inspired by the hope glimpsed towards the end of the first lockdown, when restrictions started to ease, for a return to normality. The song opens with the pulse-like drums beating like a heartbeat, creating life as it unfolds, and the strings swoop and organ blossoms, with the bassline excitedly and playfully expressing fluidity. 

JAB tells us that ""Currents" represents movement to me and I think the world moved through many phases of emotions in 2020. Similar to a stream or an ocean you have a spectrum of textures from shallow and light, to deep and heavy.”

Well we can't wait to hear the whole EP. JAB is multi-talented musician, producer, composer and arranged, leading a powerful ensemble on this release. Vinyl and digital drops on March 19.
