A selectress specializing in curveball bangers, acid jammers, smooth groovers, funky percussives, and rapturous house, she plays music from the heart with love for the culture, and respect for the underground. Kourtney is a resident DJ at Sweet Kicks and In Bloom, two dance parties she co-founded in NYC. Nick Boyd is a record label owner and DJ based in New York City. His diy label @Sorry-Records has been putting out records from a wide variety of folks from the dance music underground both locally and beyond for half a decade now — working with folks like XOXA’s own Panooc, Escaflowne, Tony G, WTCHCRFT, C Powers, Olive T, Xiorro, John Barera & Brian Abelson, Basside, DJ Delish, DJ Girl, Bored Lord, Nikki Nair, SOPHIE, and many more. Nick’s devotion to dance music is clear through his residencies on The Lot Radio and Newtown Radio, his work during lockdown co-running Bossa Nova Civic Club’s weekly stream series Bossa Radio, and his dance music criticism and interviews for Love Injection, Crack Magazine, The Fader, Bolting Bits…

"I’ve been finding a ton of joy in like deep wonked out psychedelic slammin jack tracks lately ! I really love everyone at XOXA and am so happy to contribute to this series so I wanted to translate some of that kind of bleery eyed weak knees joy that only house can give me for this mix. Tried to not overthink it which made for some nice happy accidents like playing both the a & b side of that DJ Pierre/Phortune record and that stretch of three tracks with “The Beginning” in their titles that happens in middle of the mix. Probably played more than like like 5 tracks that I would consider to be huge classics in my own musical life as well as a cuts from a lot of the folks I hold super close to my heart making an appearance — Stevie Wonder, David Morales, Spencer Kincy, Ali Berger, Grant Nelson… This wacky voodoo ray remix I just found… The original mix was the first track I played in my first DJ set on a roof at a Sorry Records party a long time ago. There’s a bit where I got way too carried away with the Din Daa Daa “dah!” sample from congo d max mix lol that was my little Junior Vasquez drama big room moment !! Btw Junior did the mix on that Angel track I played too. There’s a nod to the motherbeat with the Slits cut as well <3 Oh also thank you Tony G for ripping that record and the E-Culture cut for me as well as Rave Cafe’s Disco Smile and Dalton Saffe for letting me record this at their house and cooking a beautiful dinner!! - couldn’t have done it without em <3 “

XOXA Blend 093 - NICK BOYD

JIALING (Big J) is a Taiwanese American DJ/producer, interdisciplinary artist and founder of jjjjjjjj. Currently based in Brooklyn, JIALING was born and raised in Baltimore as a classical cellist. They spent several years living abroad in Asia, Australia and the Middle East before returning to New York.

They are part of collectives AYI AYI (Brooklyn) and WOE (Baltimore) and have monthly residencies on London’s Balamii and San Francisco’s Hyde FM. 

HONEY B is a music producer & DJ who was born and raised right outside NYC. Her travels have shaped her collection, and she loves weaving together different genres to create a unique tapestry of sound. As a resident of NYC based queer collective XOXA, she’s been known to tear up dance floors in the underground & queer scene all over the city at venues such as Le Bain, House of Yes, Nowadays, Elsewhere, Good Room & more.

"I picked J for this mix because we have a similar energy — we both play a lot of genres and play based off a mood or a feeling rather than sticking to one specific world. You can definitely feel that in this mix, we bop through different styles of music, tempos and feels. It’s slightly chaotic but in the best way, just like us 😂. Key influences for them are UK breaks producers/labels, as well as gravitating towards percussive-heavy tracks from producers around the world, joining the dots together in a playful, raw, and emotionally-charged tapestry of sounds.

"I recorded this during an especially joyful moment of my life and I think this comes through in the mix. It's a balance of rebellious/skanky/emotional energy from beginning to end. There's a focus on playful rhythms and contorted textures, and I included a lot of tracks from producers that are ongoing inspirations for me, as well as hidden gems that deserve more listening time."

Si hablas con ella a diario sabes que un 50% de las palabras que saldrán de su boca tendrán que ver de un modo o de otro con su gran pasión: la música electrónica. Si naciese 10 veces las 10 veces sería DJ.

La música que Alba Nogue pone es como ella: honesta, directa, divertida y sesuda. Lo mismo te clava un ambient planeador que un latineo mueve culos juntos. La podrás ver como dilata la mezcla 2 minutos creando un nuevo track en directo, y en otras en cambio reventando el drop con un fade out seco que ni ella sabía que iba a hacer. Pone música de manera instintiva, y se nota, sorprende y entretiene, te lo bailas. Sus selecciones son fruto de horas y horas de escucha subida en algún algoritmo que le sirve de vehículo para cribar el género, y que género nena; al fin y al cabo es una bailadora de pista y es ahí donde una adquiere el criterio para sesgar y el talento para mostrarlo mezclado, bailar a otros es la mejor academia, y ella no falta a clase.

La conocerán por ser la mitad de las Systema, ese dueto de DJs que es difícil ya no verlas programadas cada 15 días. En esta ocasión nos pone música sola y se vuelca en demostrar que no le sobra espacio en ninguna cabina, que si acaso pequeñas se le quedan.
