A sound walk inspired by the 2016 appearance of the Harlem Deer. Created for Jackie Robinson Park.
 
A meditation on the presence of the mythic in the everyday and the uneasy relationship between the built environment and the natural world. A soundscape threaded through with the ethereal voice of the deer becomes a visceral sonic journey through our longing for the solace of the wild, The Visitation charts the histories and hauntings of a particular urban geography, embedded within the geology of time.

Starting Point:
Enter Jackie Robinson Park from W145th St. and either Edgecombe or Bradhurst Ave. Position yourself on the path near the gate in front of the pool.  

Instructions:
1) Take note of your sorroundings in relation to the MAP
2) Place your phone in DO NOT DISTURB
3) Connect your HEADPHONES to your phone
4) CLICK “Listen in Browser” or the PLAY button on the image of the deer 
5) LISTEN for instructions and follow along on the map

Heather Woods Broderick excels at distilling her experiences into a soulful melancholy that's enduring both for it's intimate relatable moments and its persistent sense of mystery. Her uncanny ear for evocative production and gorgeous vocal harmonies serves her well on her new album Glider. Throughout the album, the rich dreamlike atmospheres she creates hint at a darkness looming on the horizon, while the singularity of her ethereal voice always seems to linger long after the music has stopped.

CHRISTINA CAMPANELLA is a composer, vocalist, and sound artist with a deep history as a performer in theater, film, and opera. Her “moody, driving music”, “hymn-like songs” (New York Times), and “ethereal voice” (BUST Magazine) are the mainspring of her work across disciplines. Fusing songwriting and music composition with aural design, Campanella weaves ambient textures and a dreamy avant-pop sensibility into cinematic soundscapes and deconstructed art songs.

She has created two large scale works for The Great Learning Orchestra (Stockholm) - an improvising orchestra that specializes in concert-installation and premiere performances of graphically notated scores. She is a recipient of Opera America’s Discovery Grant for Female Composers, 3 NYSCA Individual Artist Commissions in Film, Media and New Technologies, a performance grant from Café Royal Cultural Foundation, commissioning from the Swedish Cultural Council, HERE Arts Center and independent curators, funding from the Foundation for Contemporary Art, Anti-Social Music, NY State Music Fund, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, New Music USA, Mid-Atlantic Arts Foundation, and individual patrons. She has been an Artist-in-Residence at Harvestworks, HERE Arts Center, and Whitman College.

Campanella has performed in downtown theater and independent film since 1997, in works created and/or directed by Richard Foreman, Phil Soltanoff, Theodora Skipitares, Jim Findlay, Mallory Catlett and others, and has played keyboards with various NY bands. She has sung works by composers Kitty Brazelton and Nick Brooke, and regularly performs the operas of composer/sound artist Joe Diebes.
