“I was listening to a ton of Ghetto House, Breaks and Miami Bass at the time when the family at Sorry reached out to me to drop off this set. I wanted to find the common link that brought all these sounds together and I’m really happy with the way it turned out. I wanted this mix to be fun and a bit comedic too (hence the crude and hilarious lyrics)  It also serves as a little tribute to Dance Mania and the legacy that it’s marked for Chicago House music. I’m a huge fan of the label. I sprinkled some released and unreleased goodies from Paul Johnson, DJ DEEON, DJ Funk and some more of the greats off the label too. Hope you enjoy!”

SORRYMIX008 - DJ Shannon's Ghetto Breaks Mix

For GAB MIX 027, we’re very excited to present the incredibly talented MI-EL! Across the last six months MI-EL has consistently delivered quality mixes on a range of different platforms including Kindred Radio, Balamii, Reprazent, NTS, Melodic Distraction, Dance Wax and Threads, as well as an unforgettable b2b with Allecto on HOËR. Currently based in London but with strong ties to Leeds and Manchester, MI-EL has also been producing and curating some of our favourite online content with Late Night Shopper. In her GAB guest mix, MI-EL provides an hour of increasingly experimental blends traversing from dancehall-influenced, percussive minimalism towards a more bass-heavy and breaky middle ground. A sudden half-time breakdown with some afro-beat and grime steppers transforms into a doubled-up jungle ending. It’s safe to say that MI-EL’s versatility cannot be understated with selections that refuse to be confined to a single genre or style. We're very excited to see MI-EL's continued growth through 2021 and mentally preparing ourselves for the carnage of her club sets!

Labour of Love gives the opportunity to our guests to showcase sounds that are near and dear to their hearts or might not often be given the chance to play regularly.

Our first guest stepping up to the plate is, Meanjin local rising star Scalymoth. Who is taking us on a journey through hard percussions and all things evil, in her own words - "I went full evil with this mix cause like, don't get to play this dark stuff out very often but I love it"
  
Over the last year, she has quickly cemented herself as one of Meanjin stapes. supporting the likes of Xclub, Jad & The  & Iti while playing at such events as Fem Fale, S.A.S.H, Yonder Music Festival & General Press. 

Her most recent feat has seen her join forces with many of Australia's talented South Asian artists to create a community-based creative collective called "Kerfew", with the main focus being to uplift their communities and showcase the wonderful talent they have to offer.

She has now begun to dip her toes into the world of producing and we couldn't more excited to see what is to come with releases on Besancon Rhytimique Club and Backpocket Slammers, she's definitely on our ones to watch this year.
