Nu Jazz that’s Chill with Neoclassical touches, some blues notes, and audio of songbirds, all driven by conga rhythms at 75 bpm. Written in the past week, a continuation of similar themes created in the past few months. An original composition, no AI, digital music created MIDI to DAW by a human.

I live in the Northern Hemisphere, where the sunlight wanes into the shortest day and the longest night on winter solstice. In this November song — in follow up to my Equinox song — I express the month’s gradual descent into darkness as daylight recedes to the increase of night.

The good news is that we know how the story ends; the light begins regaining its strength on the day after winter solstice. So there’s hope based on empirical evidence — scientific, objective reality that you can rely upon, thank goodness! 😀

NOVEMBER: A DESCENT INTO DARKNESS 
If I could translate the musical narrative into words, the following is what it would say.

The birds know winter is coming.
They rendezvous to flee 
like embers of a dying flame.
Autumn wind claws leaves, 
a lion untamed.
All tell stories of fading light.
Stretch, they cry, towards the setting orb.
Reach upward to compel
one last flapping 
golden sail 
slipping the horizon 
waving pale.

The end of one more day 
closer, inching sunlight retreats 
as it silently 
unceremoniously greets,
the longest dark of night.
Keep knits wrapped tight!
No frost bite.
Descent toward solstice, 
prepare the bonfire’s bed.
Rest and reflect.
Pause the scroll of dread.
Sugar-plums dance in the head.
On the other side of surrender 
to darkness comes gain
the glorious reign 
of the light 
when sunrise breaks 
again.
