The product of an intercontinental friendship and a shared love of unorthodox club music, Tehran’s Taboo Collective present a 4-track collaborative exploration of broken-beat techno from label boss gestaltwandler and prolific Australia-based producer Hedchef.

Releasing work from an artist outside of Iran is a first for Taboo - the collective play a crucial role in the Tehran underground both in releasing forward-thinking club music and organising joyous community-driven parties which remain, as the name suggests, ‘Taboo’ in day-to-day Iranian life.

Rhythmic patterns jerk and shift over sinister atmospheres and chest-rattling bass throughout ‘How The Tides Shift’. Hedchef’s cinematic and brooding opener ‘Seventeen Petty Afflictions’ builds tension over the course of six and a half minutes before gestaltwandler raises the tempo for snarling dancefloor obliterator ‘Certainty’.

Onto the remixes, where gestaltwandlers’s ‘Over-the-Counter’ mix of ‘SPA’ cranks up the suspense to anxiety-inducing levels as a soaring, acidic synth cuts through the fog. To finish off the release, Hedchef’s ‘Entrenched Scepticism’ mix of ‘Certainty’ harks back to his UK roots with dubstep-tinged halftime beat structures and persistent Reese bass chunk.

Released on June 27, ‘How the Tides Shift’ is an essential pack of envelope-pushing club tools for the next generation.

Yashar known by his alias Daimonic, is an Iranian DJ and producer recognized for his deep, hypnotic approach to electronic music. With a foundation in classical training, he began his musical journey in childhood with learning instruments such as the violin and piano. This early exposure to melody and composition laid the groundwork for his evolution into electronic music production.

As electronic music culture developed in Iran, Yashar transitioned into music production, channeling his creativity into Progressive House. Over the years, he honed his craft, producing and releasing numerous tracks that showcased his melodic sensibilities and technical expertise.

Now, under his Daimonic project, he embarks on a new artistic direction, exploring the depths of Techno. Focused on hypnotic rhythms, rolling basslines, and immersive atmospheres, Daimonic’s music is a fusion of groove and intensity, designed to captivate the dancefloor.
