For the label’s second release, Amsterdam imprint yeyeh has brought together two musicians from vastly different backgrounds to celebrate the far-sighted musical potential of the Theremin on the 100-year anniversary of the instrument’s invention.

“Waves” is the product of two weeks of studio collaborations between award-winning composer and Theremin soloist https://soundcloud.com/carolinaeyck and https://soundcloud.com/eversines, an electronic music producer who has previously released music on yeyeh’s sister label ninih. It builds on Eyck’s work composing for “Theremin & Voice”, with both artists playing a part in processing, modulating, layering and arranging vocal and Theremin sounds to
create six breathtaking electronic compositions.

Varied in tone and execution, the album’s six tracks are arguably closer to instrumental pop than academic electronic music. Some tracks bear comparison to the cyclical melodic movements associated with the greats of American minimalism, while others recall the alien, otherworldly futurism of the Radiophonic Workshop, classic ambient music and the sun-bright bliss of early ‘90s IDM. Yet despite these
possible perceived parallels, “Waves” sits on its own as a stunning work crafted from the simplest of musical elements.

Originally released via Terraform Records in 1995, 'Systems E.P. 1' was certainly too ahead of its time to meet with success back in the day. That said, as years went by, so swelled the reputation of this sextet of visionary, alien-engineered jams, soon turning the once $1 bin find into a highly sought-after item on the second-hand market. Much to the displeasure of hardline speculators but for the greatest joy of skint '90s sound lovers, KOC reissues the Systems experience in full force and effect.

Harbouring a trio of submersible ambient-tech and 303-driven breaky weapons, Red Shift's own dedicated A-side has lost nothing of its soul-fulfilling appeal. Getting the ball rolling, '3rd Moon' skippers us to brightly hued sound niches, where trancey acid motifs merge with slo-moving ambient pads and uptempo breakbeat on a frenzy. Laced with a hint of bleepy abstraction, the more lascivious, piano-laden 'Audity' then shifts the scope to further introspective depths before 'Himalayas' takes us on a mind-expanding ride across imaginary snow-capped summits and lushly forested slopes.

Flip it over and here comes Ether and their mightily explosive 'Detonator' - a wild and woolly acid number that shall not go without conjuring up memories of the early Prodigy's mid-nineties rave exploits. Not to be confused with that of his contemporary Australian counterpart, Escape Artist's 'Rain Eternal' evokes the soulful RnB suavity of Sade's classics, adorned with otherworldly organic warbles and addictive piano stabs. Constants of Nature vibey closer 'Slow Symmetry Breaking' rounds off the journey on a further distinctively atmospheric note, perfect to muster up the energy and drive to take it on the lam from our crazy world.

The machine whirred and kickstarted into life - strange sounds emerged from its core as shivers and rumbles echoed in the large empty warehouse in which they watched. A strange ambient, rhythmic performance was underway. It was enchanting to watch and listen to the bizarre sounds which emerged and meandered between all four corners of the large empty room. The sound bounced and radiated with electric precision and left each listener enchanted and spellbound. 

afinss is the Rhythmical Ambient project of Lootbeg & Bajazo a friend in need sound system. The pair have worked to produce a delicate new EP, an intriguing, atmospheric affair which comes recommended.

'Exit Planet Earth - Nitrogen' features a selection of pioneers and up and coming talent. First up is a true legend of the UK electro scene, Keith Tenniswood aka ‘Radioactive Man’, who creates a constantly evolving sonic trip called ‘One Out’. Watch out for the surprise sting in its tail too. Sharing the A side is the incredibly talented Spanish producer Annie Hall, arriving fresh from her stunning CPU releases. Annie creates melodic landscapes, layered with intricate string orchestration driven by deep bass.
On the flip side Helsinki-based Sunny Seppä aka Sansibar shows exactly why he is fast becoming hot property following his immense debut album on FTP - ‘Targeted Individuals’. Sansibar brings the record back to the 4/4 with a flowing yet subtle working of synths and pads. Also based in Finland yet hailing from Holland is VC-118A, who previously caught our attention with his track ‘PCB’ a firm favourite at Exit Planet Earth events. VC118-A delivers some deep space dub with expertly crafted production centring on low end theory.

The sound bounced and wandered drunkenly between the walls leaving intermittent dancers spellbound and swaying in the breeze. It was loud and abrasive, echoing between his ears like some sort of hypno techno blend of melody and machine. Where was he? How had he gotten to be here? Where were his friends? His mind raced as the music continued to ooze and seep into every inch of the space leaving little to no escape from the dense, magnetic sound...

Matteo Coffetti takes us on a slow moving tour through hypnotic electronic excursions on his own Pho Bho Records. It's a wonderfully weird affair made up of rolling acid arps and quickfire samples. A highly recommended release we expect this one to do very well indeed.
