Lisa Atkinson (b.1992) is a Chicago-based composer whose work endeavors to explore interiority through the tactile, visceral nature of live-performance and the emotional context of gesture while examining issues of fragility, memory, timbre, time, and perception.

Kamratōn is a new music chamber ensemble based in Pittsburgh, Pa.  Currently in its fifth season of programming, Kamratōn exists to challenge the boundaries of music performance, expand the contemporary chamber music repertoire, and celebrate the role of women as leaders in the arts. Through collaboration with local composers, Kamratōn presents an array of unique and innovative chamber works to produce a rich and dynamic concert-going experience. The collective has commissioned and premiered works by numerous composers and continues to grow the chamber repertoire for subsets of its mixed instrumentation.

Soprano Anna Elder’s voice has been described as being, “ethereal” or “a voice that has blues, reds and purples in it” by The New York Times. She is well versed in 20th and 21st-century voice techniques. She intends to push the limits of the human voice and enjoys commissioning and collaborating with composers that take her there. She performs with Kamratōn and SydeBoob Duo.

Through cyclical, everyday mundanities like cooking a next meal or answering a phone call from a loved one, we weave webs of positions towards ourselves and others that inevitably collide, creating the structure and flow of our lives. The significance of these ordinary moments often slips past our awareness, though in these moments’ constancy they do more to shape and represent our lives than the scarcer, high-intensity milestones that we look forward to or that stick out in our memory.

My immersive media sound installations and staged music theater works transport participants to dramatized recreations of these small moments. I use combinations of music and field recordings, video and lighting, performance and narrative, as well as site-specificity and audience interactivity to plunder these moments’ emotional depths, expose their intimacies, and elevate their meanings within our lives.
