Though I feel dirty for acknowledging the old enemy, that's some good classic mod sound :) and the extra channels seem to really bring something extra to it. The treble does seem a bit dulled, but it's still better than what the ST would typically manage for 4 channels anyway, and you wouldn't have been able to tell much difference on a typical monitor, so what the hell, I'm just spoiled with crystal clear 32 channel PC playback :D It's making a nice bassy impression into my fingers as I hold my phone too...

Yesssssssss. After 20 years I made an 8-channels module on Amiga500 AGAIN. ;) I wasn't sure how it would work, as one can't actually use volumes in this mode, on OctaMED. It's because there are only 4 volumes for 8 traxx then. Which suxx. So it's better not to use volumes at all and make more 'versions' of samples (each with different volume). 
Also the sound-quality gets much lower in the 8ch mode. But whatta hell - why not to force old good A500 to some harder work (software mixing: actually two chips play the music: Paula but also Motorola :) ). 

Enjoy this small experiment. ;)

I'm always interested in pushing classic computers to their limits.
This time I was given this opportunity by Paulo Simoes who programmed the Hex-Tracker 849a.

This song has been made on a pure ATARI TT, a machine released in 1990, with 4Mb of RAM, 8-bit sound quality, with 2 hardware digi-channels only.
The trick it - Hex gives 16 channels, using the Atari's 32Mhz Motorola CPU.
(Can make more but with a substantial sound quality reduction).

This song is a MOD format and has all its limitations (8 bit samples, only 64Kb for a sample, only 31 samples in the module, octaves limitation) but the only difference - are those 16 channels in the MOD (software mixing).

Recorded from real hardware (that originally has only 2 digi-channels, haha).

This song has been made entirely on Raspberry Pi 2. Also, it has been recorded directly from the machine. 
22 channels have been used. 

Generally, the R_Pi's sound is being generated by the Broadcom BCM2835 chip (for model '1' of the R_Pi) and by Broadcom BCM2836 chip (in model '2' of the R_Pi) - and in my case it's the BCM2836 chip - so it's resolved somewhat like in ZX Spectrum: the sound is being generated by CPU.  

It works with 11 bit quality. It's not an actual DAC, it is a digital PWM module (gives a 'pulse width modulated' signal) working with frequency around 40MHz and it is low-pass-filtered. 

The funny thing is, I also rendered the song directly into harddisk and compared it to the version recorded from real R_Pi: and I deleted the rendered file to hell, haha. The original Pi sound is warm'n'soft; doesn't remind thousands of razors. 

Some people say R_Pi isn't good for music. 
They are WRONG.

This is an experimental song inspired by Yousuke Yasui and +TEK, i wanted to combine FM elements with x68k drum samples and some other new instruments i wanted to try out.
It's like a bootleg version of the song "Yokai Disco" by Yousuke Yasui.
I got a lot of new instruments, over like 2000, so i'm trying out a lot of new experimental stuff to get a feel for the instruments.
This isn't really a long song, but i don't really count it as a "full quality" Sylvy song, since it's very experimental, but i thought maybe it would be fun to show you all.

ZX Spectrum 48K has 1-bit sound by default, but one can also connect an AY-interface to the machine (existing since its very beginning in 1982 and even earlier because first AY-interfaces have been built for ZX81 computer - 1981).

Anyway - then Spectrum48 has the same sound-abilities what Spectrum128, Amstrad CPC, Atari ST or MSX have (they use the same chip standard: AY/YM). It means 4-bit sound, 3 channels + white noise generator, square wave and several 'buzzers'. Or - instead of it - I can use 3 channels of 4-bit digital sound with the AY, but then I have to fit all samples in 48Kb of RAM. :)

In case of chip-music, as "standard capabilities" I understand AY/YM working in 50hz (Atari ST can use this chip with 200hz of speed which gives the Atarians better audio effects due to their more powerful CPU - 16-bit, 8MHz. Cry cry!!).
So that's my weapon of choice: ZX Spectrum 48K with AY-interface. 

For making chiptunes I use ZX Spectrum's Sound-Tracker 1.1 and for digital MOD-like music I use SampleTracker 2.0 and 2.1.

In 1994 I started to make music also for Amiga 500 (MOD / MED files) on OctaMED, but they were 4 channels traxx mostly - in 99%. :) We made only several 8 channels tracks on OctaMED but it was pretty hard task for old good A500, so usually I stick with 4ch. :)

In 2002 I founded AY-RIDERS band. We play chiptunes on our Spectrums (48K, 128K and higher models). AY-RIDERS' music can be found here: http://ay-riders.speccy.cz/ (My own music You can find here: http://yerzmyey.i-demo.pl/ ).

Some time later I started to make more music for Atari ST and STe (mostly digital, but also some chiptunes).
That's how the YM-DIGITAL band appeared in 2010: http://ym-digital.i-demo.pl/ - there are 2 albums for all enthusiasts of ym2149 chip and digital oldschool music.

In 2012 I bought an Amiga 1200 and was able to start making full 8-channels digital songs for the platform (with independent volumes). That's how the "RetroBeat" album appeared, for all fans of Amiga, and also for fans of retro-computer-music.

From time to time I make songs for Atari Falcon 030 (10 channels of digital music, on DHS-Tracker). 

In 2015 I bought a British microcomputer Raspberry Pi 2 (smaller than the human hand-palm :) ), and I make some music on it, too.
