Heráclito afirma que el fundamento de todo está en el cambio incesante. El ente deviene y todo se transforma en un proceso de continuo nacimiento y destrucción al que nada escapa. Es por eso que para él, el fuego era el principio de todo. 

El elemento Fuego purifica y sublima, por lo que está relacionado con el futuro, con la búsqueda de lo espiritual, con la libertad, el viaje, la transformación, la eternidad. El fuego es el generador de energía en el cuerpo justo como el sol es el generador de energía de la tierra.

Heraclitus considered fire as the most fundamental element. He believed fire gave rise to the other elements and thus to all things. He regarded the soul as being a mixture of fire and water, with fire being the noble part of the soul, and water the ignoble part. A soul should therefore aim toward becoming more full of fire and less full of water: a "dry" soul was best. 

Fire, unlike the other elements, does not exist in a natural state. Its physical form can only take place by consuming some other element. Fire is the transformer, converting the energy of other objects into other forms: heat, light, ash, and smoke.
