The Y[outh] I[ntegration]—L[ivelihood improvement] P[roject] (Y.I.L.P.) registered organization benefitting to the public good, a West-African Diaspora association, are young people from The Gambia and Senegal, West-Africa, Germany and other nations.  The main concern of our association is, on the one hand, to promote understanding and cooperation between cultures, and, on the other hand, to provide and provide practical help and support to both people in Africa and immigrants living here in Germany.

The purpose of YILP International e.V. (according to its articles of association) is:
— support for children, adolescents and young adults in need from and in The Gambia,
— promotion of education, training and development cooperation,
— Supporting refugees according to the Geneva Convention (politically, ethnically or religiously persecuted, displaced persons, repatriates and late repatriates, war victims, civilian victims), disabled people and victims of crime,
— promotion of the memory of the persecuted, victims of war and disaster,
— promoting the search service for missing persons,
— the procurement, distribution and monitoring of the use of funds to promote education and training in development cooperation,
— the promotion of culture and art.

The association is committed to the consistent implementation of rights of children and adolescents in The Gambia in order to enable a sustainable improvement of living conditions there.  In particular, development obstacles and crimes such as genital mutilation, forced marriage of children, child pregnancies, prostitution and drug abuse should be stopped and access to education and health care should be made possible.

Our annual cultural projects also include the INTERNATIONAL INTER- AND SOCIOCULTURAL AFRICA FESTIVAL 1000 DRUMS in Leipzig (established in 2019), the musical yields of which we would like to present to anyone interested on this profile.

Das Youth Integration Livelihood improvement Project (YILP) sind junge aus Gambia beziehungsweise dem Senegal stammende Menschen, die heute in Leipzig leben, dem 2016 und 2017 in Leipzig gegründeten Verein YILP International e.V. gehören ferner Mitglieder aus Deutschland und weiterer Nationen an. Hauptanliegen unserer Vereinigung ist es einerseits, das Verständnis und die Zusammenarbeit zwischen den Kulturen zu fördern, und andererseits, praktische Hilfe und Unterstützung sowohl Menschen in Afrika als auch hier lebenden Emigrant*innen zukommen zu lassen und zu leisten.

Zweck des YILP International e.V. (nach seiner Satzung) ist:
— die Unterstützung hilfsbedürftiger Kinder, Jugendlicher und Junger Erwachsener aus und in Gambia,
— die Förderung von Volks- und Berufsbildung und der Entwicklungszusammenarbeit,
— Unterstützung von Flüchtlingen laut Genfer Konvention (politisch, ethnisch oder religiös Verfolgte, Vertriebene, Aussiedler*innen und Spätaussiedler*innen, Kriegsopfer, Zivilbeschädigte), Behinderten, sowie Opfern von Straftaten,

Der Verein setzt sich für die konsequente Umsetzung von Rechten der Kinder und Jugendlichen in Gambia ein, um eine nachhaltige Verbesserung der Lebensumstände dort zu ermöglichen. Insbesondere sollen Entwicklungshemmnisse und Verbrechen wie Genitalverstümmelung, Zwangsverheiratung von Kindern, Schwangerschaften von Kindern, Prostitution und Drogenmissbrauch gestoppt und Zugang zu Bildung und Gesundheitsfürsorge ermöglicht werden.

Zu unseren jährlichen kulturellen Projekten gehört auch das INTERNATIONALE INTER- UND SOZIOKULTURELLE AFRIKA-FESTIVAL 1000 DRUMS in Leipzig, dessen musikalische Erträge wir auf diesem Profil in Ausschnitten allen Interessierten vorstellen möchten…

FAMARA, civil name Thomas Nikles, grew up in the lovely Leimental on the feet of the Jura Mountains (Switzerland/BL). After the participation at a percussion workshop in 1984, his interest in african music could not be stopped again.

Only after a few solo appearances, different Afro- and Latinbands invited him to perform with them. At one of those performances with the Basler Rapgirl «Luana» he switched from percussion perfomer to a raggamuffin singer. The first single «Sunshine Blubber» (1987) could get some resonance in switzerland but only with the move to Gambia (1988) he got the appreciaton he deserved. The «Gambia Weekend Observer» wrote after a concert which was organized for the independance day of Gambia, where he played for 15'000 People; «Swiss reggae star in town».

On his second visit to Gambia he toured various venues and also recorded the album «Natural Fact» which was released in 1999. In 2000 he toured through Mali, Senegal and Gambia.

Well, after countless concerts/tours and various TV appearances at home and abroad – including with YOUSSOU N'DOUR and TIKEN JAH FAKOLY, the release of the albums «Natural Fact» 1999, «Sunlife» 2001, «Toubab Man» 2003, «Famasound» 2004, «Double Culture» 2005, «Oreba» 2008, «The Sound Of Famara» 2010, «The Cosmopolitan» 2012 and «Karibu» 2014 – the reggae old master is back in 2023 after a long creative break with the new album «Tembo Power». Once again he makes it clear where his roots lie.

His world beat reggae, rooted in Africa, is colorful, cosmopolitan and unfiltered. His energetic live show electrifies after a few bars and gets the audience boiling every time. With over 500 shows in Switzerland, including just about every major festival at home and abroad (Gampel, St. Gallen, Frauenfeld, Heitere, Summerjam, Chiemsee, Rototom Sunsplash, etc.) and over 25,000 CDs sold in stores, as well as appearances with SEEED, GENTLEMEN, and ZIGGY MARLEY, FAMARA is probably one of the most active and certainly most successful Swiss-Reggae acts!
