PREMIERE: Baby Rollén - Metallic Humanoids [Gestalt]

Detached From Reality

Irish producer and DJ Casper Hastings returns to the label in full force with a 6-track EP titled “Recreational Murder”, including a bonus track on the digital format. Unleashing a lethal mutation of electro, techno and jungle, the release showcases Casper’s versatility as an artist who garners clear-cut expertise in his field. 

Nodding to its foreboding title, “Tangerine Meme” follows suit with an increased pace, woven together by squelchy synth work, wobbly bass and a gnawed up vocal scattered throughout.

“Reaper” lands with a pitched-up vocal riff opening the track; the word LSD later echoing through the ghostlike atmosphere laid out by a snappy pattern of snares and smoggy distortion. Peder Mannerfelt’s remix of the track comes as a curveball and flips the B-Side of the record, upending the previously understated but ominous tone with thundering drums, whiplike percussion and in-your-face high velocity. 

“Ruthless Romance” continues on the rapid tip, this time highlighting Caspers long-running love for jungle. With a spirited UKG-tinged sample layered over clattering drums and  hardcore bass lines with the celebrated genre, this is the track that brings a chunk of quick escapism. The deconstructed “Good Medicine” closes the record with the return of stabbing bleeps, intense kicks and swirling psychedelics accompanied by a grunt-heavy sample to reflect the EP's theme a sense of dread lurking behind every corner. Looping full circle to that initial cinematic feel, the final track / digital bonus “Akashita” marks his solo instalment on the label with palpable effect for an incredibly rounded piece of work.

OS Premiere: Lithe & Imitation Therapy - Mondo [Branch Points]

Matching supple muscle with brainy brawn, fast-rising Edinburgh producer @lws_trax comes bowling onto the PM+ series with a pair of widescreen heaters. As is now well established and expected for Peder Mannerfelt’s quick-fire offshoot of club-ready cuts, these pieces are forged outside obvious genre categorization, where it’s easier to talk in terms of sound and energy than style.
 
‘Pendrum’ is a long and ranging track which revels in knotty rhythmic intricacy, driven by a drum palette which sounds like it was sourced from those odd things you find in miscellaneous kitchen drawers. The space-age pads take these items and fling them towards the horizon, and we’re dutifully dragged along for the ride. It’s a true journey piece – a saga for the club loaded with dramatic peaks and troughs.
 
‘Now That’s Focus!’ similarly looks beyond obvious drum machines for its percussive hits, but this time it’s purely about the beat. LWS proves himself to be devilishly effective at setting a scene with not much more than a biscuit tin and a dripping tap at his disposal, strapping the crinkling of a crisp packet to a rugged kick and slowly letting the gas escape from his bottle of sparkling when the track shifts into a higher gear.

Dawn Razor and Archetech, two friends and two-thirds of the once-active trio Sonnen Blumen Kerne, have collaborated to deliver an album of tracks previously released exclusively on vinyl through Dawn Razor’s NARA Records. When Lobster Theremin ceased operations, the stock of these releases was lost, leaving only brief preview snippets online.

Adam approached HOMAGE with the story and shared the tunes with us. Moved by the situation, we decided to release all of the tracks as a retrospective album. Thus, 'Half Life' was born—a collection of 10 tracks that blur the boundaries between slammin' electro, breakbeat, and mutated bass, all with a minimalist edge.

'Half Life' will be available to stream and download from May 17th, 2024.
