House music producer BIJOU considers his latest work for collaboration with FISHER’s Catch & Release label to be a full relaunch. In this exclusive commentary, the Arizona native talks about the making of his latest single, “Mind Eraser,” and recent tracks “Mobbin,” “Put It Down” and “Take Me.” He explains how “Mind Eraser,” a collaboration with friend and vocalist Datti, came together in record time during a layover en route from the Dominican Republic to LA. Two weeks later, FISHER rinsed the song at a gig. “It’s a crazy series of events,” says BIJOU. “It never happens like that.” For “Mobbing,” he was inspired by hip-hop, so he “took it back to the big sub-heavy basslines and whiny, West Coast synths.” Elsewhere, on “Put It Down,” he created a memorable for festivals and dancefloors alike, while when creating “Take Me,” he tried new synth techniques that “gave the song a new type of energy.” Listen now.

Korean-Canadian multi-instrumentalist Luna Li reworks her second album, ‘When a Thought Grows Wings,’ for this deluxe edition, which features collaborators Hope Tala, Mei Semones, MAVI, HOMESHAKE and more. In this exclusive commentary, Luna talks about the making of key tracks from the album and reflects on key moments from her journey as an artist, such as the pivotal “2615.” Here, she explains how she began posting videos of her jams, looping every instrument herself, during the pandemic, noting how this time period was when she “was needing desperately to cling on to music, creativity and positivity to keep me sane.” Of the track, “Bon Voyage,” Luna discusses how the song explores questions of power of destiny: “How much autonomy and control do we really have in our lives?” Elsewhere, Luna reflects on her collaboration with Hope Tala (“I Imagine”), as well as celebrates how “Silver and Rain” and “You Didn’t Have to Go” are “close to her heart,” inspired by her native Toronto. The LA-based indie pop duo HOLYCHILD went on indefinite hiatus a few years ago, but their “sex anthem” track “Bathroom Bitch” has been making waves online lately, a decade after it was first written. In this exclusive commentary, songwriter and vocalist Liz Nistico discusses the making of key HOLYCHILD tracks and her recent solo material as Revenge Wife. Liz reflects on how “Bathroom Bitch” was deemed too provocative for release at the time, noting, “I wanted to be really dirty and open lyrically. It’s so cool where it has gone now.” Elsewhere across the HOLYCHILD catalog, Liz breaks down how “Fight For Me” came from being inspired to buy a piano after an ayahuasca ceremony, and “You Make Me Sick” came from studio sessions in London with Greg Wells, a collaborator of Katy Perry and Adele. While her former partner, Louie Diller, has gone on to produce other artists, Liz is now focused on her new solo project, Revenge Wife. LA-based crate digger, DJ, producer and radio host Daniel T’s new track, “One Look,” features his friend Andy Cabic, from the San Francisco band Vetiver, on vocals. “We banged it out — with no AI, I might add,” he says, who was one-half of the Cosmic Kids before going solo.
