“One of the realest people I know”, says an RVA bystander. “The Truth”, says a spectator after a hip hop show. I bet your wondering who they are talking about. Well his name is Roger Tyler also known as “RT”. He's an successful emcee and blogger for The Cheats Movement and is also a member of RVA Hip Hop Group, “The New Juice Crew” and Co-Creator of “U-Cubed Gang”. Coming from Northern Virginia to Richmond in 2003 was a big transition in his life overcoming boundaries and obstacles such as trust with friends/acquaintances, relationships, drugs and musical boundaries such as false labels and rappers. Going through so much with labels RT decided to take matters into his own hands and create “In My Mind: The Mixtape 2004-2009” which was a compilation of tracks between those times that he has had from different local labels at the time and released a project on Datpiff. Following that he linked with Unorthodox Entertainment and dropped   his second project, “Spittin’ Image” which he states as the “Fuck you to the thought of quitting music” series. He says that he made this project while he was about to quit doing music. “Who knows there may be another” says RT. Following that project RT then bought his own microphone and music editing program and decided to do it himself. He recorded night and day and then dropped his third project, “KnOwNuNkNoWn”, in which he describes as a fresh start for the people to notice me. At the time he wanted to do more than just hand out mixtapes but also be seen performing songs. He then ventured out into the capital city Richmond and linked up with local promoter Jay30 for the “Show Your Skills Showcase” held at “Have A Nice Day Café” at the time. After 2 months of performing every Tuesday Local Icon/Emcee Black Liquid peeped his talent and invited him up to his radio show WRIR 97.3FM. Not knowing, RT was actually a candidate for his super group “The New Juice Crew”. After passing initiation RT later became part of the team he dropped his fourth mixtape, “The Black And White Experience”, his most personal project yet, which solidified him as a force not to be reckoned with in RVA. RT since then has performed in many places around Richmond, performed at The National with The New Juice Crew twice, been featured with Black Liquid on the cover of The Richmond Times Dispatch for teaching Hip Hop to the youth, wrote Hip Hop blogs for rvamag.com and The Cheats Movement, created U-Cubed Gang with fellow RVA emcee’s Emphasys and Rah Scrilla and co-hosts WDCE 90.1FM and WRIR 97.3.
