Brooklyn quartet Body Language make a slinky brand of groovy, often moody dance pop with infectious rhythms. They’re set to drop their latest full-length effort, Mythos, later this fall. An early taste of the album comes in “Addicted.” The four-piece showcases their uncanny ability to dance you through deceptively piercing, emotional evocations. Bubbling synth layers, and subtle intricate percussion drive the track as gauzy, penetrating harmonies float above. The song is perfect for feel-good night where flirting can be difficult to discern as love or lust. Here’s what singer/producer Matthew Young had to say about the jam: “Sometimes the line between love and need is blurred by desire, ‘Addicted’ tries to embody that line.”

When the beach party film revival arrives, Ted Feighan (aka Monster Rally) will be the Ennio Morricone of its resurgence. Mystery Cove, the forthcoming Monster Rally album, is a soundtrack to an imaginary movie both fit for the vaults of TMC and primed for a grindhouse exploitation flick screening. Mystery Cove contains a narrative arc of young lovers on an island getaway. As the grooves spin, Monster Rally reveals a cabalistic presence in the jungle that leads them on an adventure of surf competitions (“The Big Surf”), voodoo terror (“Tourismo”), and plenty of slushy cocktails (“After Hours”). The occult meets the salt-rimmed rum mix on Mystery Cove.

Since his Coral LP, Monster Rally has been an analog to the exotica forefathers. His reinvention of cocktail music via luau-loops and tchotchke breaks evokes a mondo vision of the subgenre. With Mystery Cove, the quiet village is not what it seems, and every resort comes at the cost of indigenous displacement. Beyond the florals and brightly feathered fauna is inferno in paradise.

I Just Feel Like Dancing is inspired by Lady Gaga’s characteristic synths and Robyn’s catchy melodies and beats. The admiration of Swedish pop pride Abba is apparent in the interlude which is built with a dynamic base line and vocal harmonies. The song originally took shape five years ago and has since developed in collaboration with producer John Hårleman.

The song is about forbidden love. And the chorus goes ”You say that you wannabe with me but I just feel like dancing, movement has grown inside of me you feel it so entrancing”. This statement highlights the longing for unlimited freedom beyond expectations and demands. That feeling of freedom occurs when the dancing begins.

Futureproof is a song of stirring hope and intent, with production that hints towards an early evening dancefloor warm-up. For the forthcoming EP, Christa has enlisted the help of indie pop artist @AmateurBest (Brille, Double Denim) to create a wiggly leftfield version of the original. This is followed by a strong radio friendly dance-pop remix by the prolific London producer @RussChimes (Uno Maas), harking back to Christa’s love of late 90’s electronica with definite echoes of Everything But the Girl. A third remix by LA-based house producer @Rhythm-Operator (Let’s Play House, Glasgow Underground) provides a soulful underground house cut also bringing to the surface some exquisite backing vocals by Michael Tyrrell of London pop group @wearesuns
