"Philadelphia Maneto," the city of Philadelphia's motto, translates as "Let Brotherly Love Endure." In this spirit of togetherness, Young Robots label chief DJ Apt One curates a compilation of the Philadelphia and New Jersey area's eclectic and talented underground electronic and dance acts. From established acts Pink Skull and Todd Edwards (Daft Punk collaborator and half of Lux & Edwards) to local favorite DJs Billy W and Shawn Ryan (half of Superprince) to indie dance bands Nicos Gun and The Downtown Club, this record shows the depth and diversity of the scene. DJ Apt One remixes three live acts on the compilation, with an assist on the saxophone from his frequent collaborator, Fools Gold's Sammy Bananas. Instamatic, SAUR (My Techno Ways A Ton), aupl and mysterious house guru NITEWAX round out the record.

The tracks by Nicos Gun, The Downtown Club and Instamatic and their respective remixes by DJ Apt One will appear on a limited run vinyl release available in the Philadelphia area this summer and digitally via turntablelab.com.

Philadelphia's premier listener-supported radio station, WXPN FM, will co-sponsor the digital release, which will be available for free as well as through all Young Robots' usual digital sales outlets.

The release of the compilation will coincide with a July 18th concert on Philadelphia's Race Street Pier and a subsequent afterparty, featuring acts from Philadelphia Maneto.

Rumbles, glonks and metallic squinks. Electro made in Philadelphia. 

Instamatic make danceable beats with brains. Armed with four-on-the-floor propulsion and dirty synth hooks, Instamatic combine elements of contemporary electro with classic indie rock aesthetics. The band formed in 2008, growing out of the Philadelphia DJ/production duo Crimp Yr Hair. After spinning for years and remixing artists like Crystal Castles, Yelle, and Matt & Kim, TJ Adams and Rick Mitchell decided to expand what they had in the studio into a live performance. They joined forces with Amanda Blank collaborator Steven Haslam and Philadelphia scene veterans Philip Schorn and Matt Coogan to write electronic anthems – and actually play them. Having grown up in the Philadelphia punk scene, they called bullshit on electronic groups that barely used their instruments on stage. While their contemporaries seemed content to push play on a laptop, Instamatic were determined to recreate what they made in their basements and bedrooms live. Their tracks reflect this spirit and their shows are an aural assault of speakers, synthesizers and sequencers.

Instamatic self-released their third EP "Wrapped In Wire" in February 2013. They are currently playing shows up and down the East Coast, sharing the stage with the likes of Memory Tapes, Amanda Blank, Creepoid & approximately 6,954 DJs.

XPN said, “New wave-disco hasn’t sounded this good, since, well, new wave-disco of the late 1970s and early 1980s.”

Pitchfork called the band, “electropop definitely worth a listen.”

DJ | Producer | Bassist G Mateus melds rhythms and global grooves for the dance floor, creating fresh and contemporary sounds rooted in the traditions of the ancestors.  Mindful of the visceral and spiritual connections his listeners embrace in music, he keeps the dance hall hot and the hips swaying.  With over a decade of experience as  an electric bassist, his approach hovers at the low end of the musical strata... embracing less as more….

G Mateus lived for over a decade in Washington, D.C., honing his chops playing bass with groups like Citizen Cope, 18th Street Lounge house band - the Nu Bossa Band, Mahala, and the Iranian pop superstars Sattar and Vigen.  He came of age nodding to Go-Go, Salsa, Cumbia, Reggae, Samba and Bossa Nova, Roots Rock, Classic Soul, Jazz and Persian Pop.

While performing as a bassist, G Mateus learned how music integrates motion, accompanying modern dance classes, studying Capoeira Angola and apprenticing with percussionists specializing in Afro Cuban and West African traditions.  Performance in the DC dance community, led to sound design with modern dance choreographers and theater works performed at The National Black Theater Festival and the NY Fringe Festival.

G Mateus has continued to perform now in New York City with a variety of groups as a bassist, collaborating with numerous artists from downtempo collective Suisse Modular, to spoken word hip hop Second 2, uber-producers like Christian “Wicked” Wicht, and vocalists like Maya Azucena, and Masauko Chipembere.   MC Juakali’s debut EP included  g-mateus original work “Until Then”, with remixed versions by Alpha and Omega and Drop the Lime, and additional tracks by Kush Aurora.

Most recently, G Mateus has sharpened his skills behind the decks, balancing familiar classics with new and inventive forward tracks.  His parties have held it down thoughout the Brooklyn and Downtown scenes, with the famed BUSTED parties at the East Village's Leopard Lounge attracting a diverse group of party goers and hosting artists such as DJ Spooky and Dirty Bird's Justin Martin.  Currently G Mateus has a residency at Williamsburg lounge Hachi, where he spins Nu DIsco, Moombahton, Broken Beat, Deep House and Tropical Beats.
