The Reconstruction Era is Chicago's premier Hip-Hop duo; consisting of two emcees, Dev Did It and Maven. Both artists were born and raised in Chicago. Having been residents of every side of the city, they offer a broad and unique perspective on the City of Wind. As children, they attended many different schools but wound up at the same elementary school on Chicago's East-side, in fifth grade. Then, coincidentally, attended the same college, Southern Illinois University at Carbondale. This is where they realized their mutual passion of Hip-Hop. The two lyricists have contrasting vocal distinctions; though different, these are complimentary to their beat selections. Dev Did It initially drew influence from Scarface and Tupac, and Maven was influenced by Biggie and Common, but their individuality is never in question when they're on the mic. Their sounds range form soul to humor, and everything in-between. Their storytelling is vivid and cohesive, lyrics are sharp, and their beats are invoking. Numerous stages have been home to Reconstruction Era, including The Checkerboard Lounge, Reggie's Record Breakers, and The Metro, as an opening act for Curren$y.
