The Sound Of: Yoyaku, mixed by Benjamin Belaga and Woddd

After the response from her more downtempo track for our Free Download series we thought it only right to follow up with Xiaolin for a mix for our InSessions series. The Hong Kong native is well-versed in all manner of electronic music spheres, but her penchant lies at the rawer, bleepy end of house music and minimal. As well as these serious club sounds, Xiaolin is also a fine purveyor of more traditional sounds and is a regular face on the Canto Pop scene. 

Recorded live at Mihn Club in Hong Kong, Xiaolin takes control of the atmospheric nightspot from the very beginning of this episode of our mix series. Stripping the action back to the fundamental elements, she injects power moves after power moves into the dancefloor as if priming for tracks that are yet to be introduced. Her unhurried, methodical touch speaks volumes as the next groove and bassline comes thudding into view. While the poppier side of her sound is more carefree, Xiaolin’s mix for our podcast series offers freedom of mind as well as of body.

Being French-born, but now based in Ecuador, it would seem that Nicola Cruz has the perfect mix of influences on his sound. Fair enough, he did move to Ecuador when he was only three, but as a result of the many musical mixes he has been exposed to in his early life, he has a truly unique sound of his own. Nicola has an unwavering thirst for grooves of all shapes and sizes, and these can be easily noted via his many releases for the likes of fabric, Rhythm Section, Multi Culti, and his stunning downtempo longplayer for Nous’klaer Audio.
