Promised to us eons ago, the humble and gifted roadkill casually slipped this one into our inbox years later. It’s a P R O P E R trip!!! Psychedelic yet fun. But we won’t go on some long winded desctription about it, here’s some words from Roadkill himself… "The mix is quite directly inspired by recordings from Goa around 1991-92 which i had on repeat at the end of last year. the DJs were kind of pulling from everywhere, so belgian new beat, EBM, uk bleep, early german techno from frankfurt, plus some early italian progressive stuff. this whole mish mash of sounds set the tone for what eventually became "trance" and later "goa trance"..... Enjoy xx

Putting a pigeon amongst the cats we are back with that good shit. An out of step, incidental artefact of peaceful sophistry: YS - Brutal Flower (2 x “12 LP). A no airs and graces piece of cool future-proof ambience. A modern ballad for brave young clubbers, local pubbers, slipstream warriors, and emotional doggers.

The distinctive aesthetic hallmarks of YS are all here: slabs of urban flavour from emotional interior; raw data straight from the interface. ‘Untethered’ and ‘Down’ are chopped-up cuts of searching R’n’B - jaded jams of lustful erasure. On the flipside, blunted desire lingers in ‘Fading
Memory’. Both hopeful and mourning: this is the lay of the land in Brutal Flowers sharing that rare strain of underground synesthesia best located in dark undercurrents of early Mo Wax.

The orchestral ambience of ‘Autumn OST’ is a potent stupor of end credit cinematics. Coming up for air. It feels young in an ancient sort of way: pure as first snow. And from here in the album unfolds with the patience, tranquility and the expansive poise of a work that is for now and always. Pulsating gently to assured ending with ‘Be Together’ - a flickering skyline, swarming with warm memories. In between there’s flashes of heartbreak reminiscent of Beltran's Ten Days of Blue and Blunt’s Stone Island (‘Look Up’ feels like a sort of spiritual successor to ‘Wake up’), that being said, when push comes to shove it only it ever flirts with its own reality.

An aesthetic reflection of a creative process that is delicate and restless. Created in the edges, where long distances, fast cities and global melancholia are wrought large. Burning the midnight oil Berlin-Singapore style: from real to reel. A sentimental exercise of modern faith by old
friends. With a nudge and a wink, Brutal Flowers is a (de)coded map of memories wavering with familiar intrigue. Patient listeners and the already initiated will be rewarded on re-visits - as playful & profound as you please, as deep as the heart.

The scathe that cuts is clean and deep. There are no sleight of hands to be found in this opus, only hearts are worn on the sleeve here.

Don’t really know what to say about this one fr fr, but maybe I do have something to say. Always wanted to see Glu go off tits in front of a real live audience and finally it happened. This was to be realized ever since seeing him repeatedly and obnoxiously dropping wonderwall into a rogue set at the infamous 'brucensauna' kick-ons (if you know, u know) much to the dismay of the DJs in the room. Looks of both horror and awe filled the room and I myself took delight upon dat. Glu World Order! It was funny as fuck seeing Glu with his signature double plats channeling Pippi Long Stockings and his stupid Paul Van Dyke "I <3 NY" t-shirt, deploying funk bomb after bomb, after building some tension through stripped back dubby-tech-rollers at the beginning of the set, Glu showed his hand & got the place was jumpin’ jumpin' and I’m kinda still recovering from all that noise. “Somebody call the doctor, cos it's sick cunce” Glu Quote

a. hei :)) I'm Conna – a DJ/producer currently based in Glasgow, UK. I am the co-founder of INDEX:Records and the creator of co:clear.


q. is there a story behind the mix?
a. This mix was recorded a couple of months ago – intended as an accompaniment to my debut album (“Lusidiq”), which was recently released on Theory Therapy.

I remember feeling rather uninspired to dig for new music at the time, so Gary (Theory Therapy label head) lent me his Bandcamp login; about half of the mix was curated via Gary’s Bandcamp collection. Most of the other stuff in here are songs that I’ve been rinsing throughout 2k23.


q. what’s the best way to enjoy your mix?
a. Listen to it if you ever need to find solace in rough times </3


q. describe a favorite object in your living room…
a. My living room is the best room in my apartment and there are too many of my favourite objects in here… it’s probably a toss up between a huge 3m wide print, designed by Sasha & Dre, or my PS5 (which is connected to a mini-soundsystem).


q. are you working on any projects right now (music or not music)?
a. I’m working on a kinda cray amount of projects currently: many exciting things with co:clear; a link up with 29 Speedway for an event in Berlin; and working on the finishing touches for some of my favourite records to ever come out on INDEX:
