When Christmas Comes

Hello there,

My name is Jacky. It was March two years ago. Just like every Sunday morning I was cleaning a pub in Melbourne, Australia when I heard Wu-Tang Clan properly for the first time. It was really fucking loud, I was dusty and it screwed me loose. I became obsessed, listening to 36 Chambers, Only Built for Cuban Linx and Liquid Swords every day. I bought a MPC, started making beats and invited my mates to come work in a way none of us ever had done cos we're all fanging guitar players. We learned to sample and sequence, making it up as we went along, writing songs like we always did, but in pieces. Forever cleaning the pubs I saved enough money to fly 6 times across the Pacific to New York City to work with producer Matt Verta-Ray (Jon Spencer Blues Explosion/Dirtbombs) in his analogue studio NY HED. There we began to sew it all together and from those sessions came The Nails EP. People tell me it reminds them of the Dust Brothers production style, especially the early Beck records. I fucking love those guys, a brilliant compliment.

This is all exploration, doing whatever feel good, just pure music making. It’s sideways and it's dark and sometimes beautiful, that much I know. I wanted to show that to you.

2014 led Blue Hawaii around the world. Over multiple visits to Russia, China/SE Asia, Mexico, Japan, Europe and the US, it felt like everything was coming up opposite Untogether, the album we made. Instead of being secluded in a Montreal apartment writing a fragmented break-up record, we were travelling vast distances, rediscovering each other as close friends and tying together radically different cultures. Our music came to reflect that. Live, everything sounded more together and higher energy than the record in an effort to find common ground with all those different audiences. 

It's the end of the year, so to commemorate the global underground touring we did— to all the people who were interested in coming to and putting on a Blue Hawaii show in Bangkok or Vilnius— we decided to put together a free mixtape of edits —  somewhere between the dreamy record and the banging live show. 

In 2015, Ra will focus on her other band, BRAIDS, who have just completed a beautiful, deeply emotional, new record which I am very excited to see come into the world. I will use what I’ve learnt this year DJing and roaming the earth to produce more music this winter —  planning on releasing material in a similar vein to this mixtape and hitting SXSW this March as DJ Blue Hawaii.. holding down the fort until Ra and I can record another album…   something 4 y’all to look forward to! ---;)  Agor (the boy in Blue Hawaii)

Yuko Yuko is the Dutch nostalgic-psychpop solo-project of Elias Elgersma. Elias is just 19 years of age but has already a big catalog of records, made on taperecorders from the old days. Elias only uses old equipment before he was born. 

In 2012 Yuko Yuko's song we're noticed by Mexican bloggers. Before he even had anyone from the Netherlands to know his music he released two EP's on Badpop and RVRB Music. His second EP 'Cutlove' was catched up by Dutch media like Vice/Noisey, so it was time for Elias to perform his songs live in a 5 piece live-band.

Despite Elias is currently busy with entertaining his people with live performances and recording songs daily he always has a few unreleased record ready to share. A lot of material will be released on Purple Noise Record Cub (A label of Yuko and his friends). With albumtitles like 'Cry Along With Yuko' and 'Is Dick Home?' Elias wants to interpret his emotions with a tablespoon of salt to a enervating listening experience including a dripping tear on the lips of your smile.
