ESSEX RASCALS PODJAM 023: BEN SIMS presents BACK TO THE ROOTS (VOL ONE)

Dieser Mix ist im @liquidsoundclub Bad Schandau entstanden – ein Gewitter zog auf und in der Therme nahe der Elbe wurde auf RECORD gedrückt. Dieser Mix ist dem Sea Orbiter gewidmet – eine geplante französische Seeforschungsstation. Initiator ist der französische „Unterwasserarchitekt“ Jacques Rougerie. Die Gesamthöhe des Sea Orbiters soll ca. 51 Meter betragen, wovon sich 30 Meter unter Wasser befinden. Die Station soll senkrecht treiben und u. a. den Atlantik erkunden. Ursprünglich sollte die Station 2010 in Betrieb gehen, gegenwärtig ist das Projekt aber noch in der Planungsphase. Als neuer möglicher Zeitpunkt für einen Stapellauf wurde Mai 2014 erwähnt.

Viennese don Peter Kruder’s gradual metamorphosis from king of downtempo to purveyor of classy house and techno was perhaps one of the more unexpected shifts amongst electronic luminaries of last few decades, but it has not been in vain. 

His work as half of Kruder & Dorfmeister soundtracked a million crack-ons, afterhours, comedowns, smoke-outs and lounge sessions and remains some of the most timeless material of the recent era.

Under his own name, he has built a long-running relationship with DJ Hell and his International Deejay Gigolo imprint, releasing several EPs of thought-provoking 4/4 as well as releases on Stefan Goldmann’s Macro and Compost Black Label. His mix for Monologues is a journey through some of his finest remixes, showing his respectful and subtle skill in reworking everything from Daft Punk-produced electronic soul to bossa nova and jazz. It’s an honour to have him contribute to the series.

Dead Melodies is back with his second album on Cryo Chamber, The Foundations of Ruin. Following on from his last album, Legends of the Wood we return to the isle of mist and dig deeper into the narrative. 

"The wrought iron gate creaks open to the overgrown driveway. Up ahead, flickers of lightning make out the hazy silhouette of a large house veiled in a dense fog. Shelter! Finally, somewhere to rest your head after that terrifying ordeal in the wood. 

The house, a ruinous crumbling remnant of better days stands lonesome in the unruly grounds; like a keeper bestowed with time itself. An ornate wooden door hangs broken on its hinge, the windows cracked and vines creep wildly from every crevice like tendrils from the netherworld. Something definitely feels wrong here, but with hours till dawn and the relentless storm wailing through the surrounding trees, the will to survive the night defeats all reason to fear this shady forgotten sanctuary. 

Stepping inside the once stately ruin, the great hall teems with decay and an age of sedimentary dust covers every surface; any remnants of life that once knew this place are long gone. Doors and stairwells stem off in all directions. With a creaking silence and a deathly stillness consuming the air, you contemplate which way to go. But then, a noise… is someone there? The temperature drops and a familiar chill runs down your spine…." 

Recommended for fans of soundtrack like experiences and cinematic dark ambient.

The smell of burnt wood linger in the canopy of the forests, clicking machinery reverberate deep within. Trees malformed, technology fused with nature, the prophecy of the shaman was wrong. The ancient land now lies perverted by the swarm, but the tribe is coming home.

Lesa Listvy - Reflection

Hello dear friends. Today, let's welcome Saphileaum for the 21th episode of the Stellar Series.

Born in Tbilisi, Georgia. The project was influenced by the pulsating local techno scene and strongly inspired by foreign artists like Anthony Linell / Abdulla Rashim, Acronym & Luigi Tozzi. He found his own style in deep and atmospheric techno, intepreting this in a more consciousness-expanding way while combining a variety of ambient and hypnotic soundscapes. Constantly pushing new releases on labels like NORITE, Controlled Violence and Lett Records, Saphileaum has also played alongside techno veterans like In Aeternam Vale and Stanislav Tolkachev in the past.

Here, Saphileaum provides a list of ambient, tribal and rhythmic  hypnotic soundscapes. Dive deep into the realms of esoteric and theosophical forest with the man who "sees people as they are and not as they pretend to be".

Anadol, the name after has been taken from an old-fashioned turkish car brand, is an instrumental synth-pop project by Gözen Atila, an artist, dj and keyboard player based in Berlin. Our 25th Anniversary slot this week features Richard Dorfmeister who appeared on the show in 2003 and featured many times as one half of Kruder and Dorfmeister, as well as his project Tosca with Rupert Huber, amongst others. Opening with ECM artist Steve Tibbetts, his mix floats between Gui Boratto, his own lush edit for Selah Sue, acoustic guitar of Jeb Loy Nichols and the dubbed out Rhythm & Sound featuring Cornell Campbell on vocals. He then weaves through Pat Metheney, the dub version of Sunset from Grace Jones' last album, blues from Ry Cooder and ending with a couple of tracks from his recent Tosca album 'Odeon'.
