The hypnotic momentum of the night passes to the hands of DJ Three as light begins to fill sky and the new day creeps ever closer.  For forty breathless minutes we wait… until at last the sun breaks over the horizon, and a collage of verbal musings, psychedelia and ornate music fills the air.  Toying with echoes and teasing with nuance, shutters fluttering to capture the fleeting moment…a moment not soon forgotten for those who were lucky enough to be there, at sunrise on Sunday, Black Rock City, Burning Man, 2014.   And then, just as easily as we are led into that place, a whole movement of sound and energy returns the dance floor.

With our latest excursion on Media Blackout, we have a humdinger of a release, if there ever was one. Barcelona & London based Medsound and Le Flex both enigmatic multitalented artists, that have been regulars in many top artist playlists, constantly showcasing their huge originality and versatility without ever disappointing, teamed up for a one of a kind collaboration to bring us the wonder that is ‘Summertime'. 

A modern tropical nu disco jam with all the right elements. The bouncy bass and great synth arrangements create a sexy, provocative atmosphere while Le Flex's vocals make words settle in truly magical fashion, creating a warm felt atmosphere that creates special memories every time you listen to it. 

The sing-along anthem gets the remix treatment by none other than French NuDisco royalty ‘Mark Lower' and German virtuoso ‘Justin Faust' both famed for their body moving beats and immense production skills. The pair remix versions dive into more upbeat territory with lots of euphoric vibes. Their luscious use of the vocals, bass stabs and driving drums makes for an irresistible rhythm while the clever chords round off these fantastic interpretations. „Essential stuff oft the highest order!"

We aren't done just yet, to close out this masterpiece of a release we have two more reworks, from the exceptional talents of Greek maestro George Freeman & Media Blackout alumni Thomas Tonfeld. Airy pads and beautiful rhythmic components are the name of the game in both of these talented musicians interpretations. In going with a deeper, melodic sensibility the much-loved Greek George Freeman has delivered a superb complement to the luscious original. With Thomas's immaculately carved groove rework, the house based groove sets the tone and is the mainstay along with those distinctive vocals from Le Flex, making his version a pick for a great dance floor moment. 

With the immense talent on offer ‘Summertime' delivers the ideal soundtrack for those lusty, sexy and funky dance floors that will make you ask for more. This is one Media Blackout release that should not be missed!

Ever since his early years, Alex Kennon has always been interested in music. As a result, he started studying classical guitar when he was 6 and thanks to his father, was introduced to the music world through funk, punk rock and electric rock. Aged 15 Alex started working in local radio, where he began to lay the base of his own taste in the musical field. In the beginning he became closer to house music and deep-tech sounds, and afterwards became influenced by acid and dub styles and from artists such as Soul Capsule, Point G, Omar S and Mr G.

His style is difficult to define: whilst he is still inspired by different genres and trends; he doesn’t adapt it to fit a particular outline. Alex’s music follows above all what his feelings suggest, and because of that reason is always progressing

2016 started strong after renowned producer Pirupa included Kennon’s track ‘Blue Water’ in his Essential Mix, whilst an upcoming collaboration between the pair is set to release on Nic Fanciulli’s label Saved Records. Alex also joined Maceo Plex at Pacha several times during the Ibiza season for his new Mosaic party, before summer appearances at festivals such as Spellground, Pacha Amsterdam and JEMF, and at numerous events including Nic Fanciulli’s ‘We Are The Night’ Sonar OFF week party.

This is a long-overdue homage to one of the best house labels ever conceived. At only ten releases long, and almost entirely created by both The Timewriter and Terry Lee Brown Jr., Driftwood hit the mark every single time with some of the smoothest deep house around. 

It took me quite a while to complete the series, not to mention a good amount of money, but the hunt was worth every penny. I've owned the entire series for about six years now, but just now am finally getting around to compiling a mix of only driftwood tracks. 

Total respect goes to the Driftwood label, Jean F. Cochois AKA The Timewriter, Norman Feller AKA Terry Lee Brown Jr., Hakan Lidbo, Robi Uppin, and Jonathan Axelsson. Special thanks goes to my friend Travis Wolf for originally pointing this label out to me back in 2002 and for kicking off an obsessed passion for this Imprint.

Two additional remixes of the main track “Bosphor” are released. Sin Tek gave this song his very own personal flavour. Moreover, A.N.I.C.E. and Max Farlane collaborated and reinterpreted the song in a totally new way. It sounds frisky, somehow screwy, excited but still smooth.
