The Dive Bar is about the rush of meeting and connecting with someone new out at the local pub. 

For the past year and a half, I hosted a weekly songwriters open mic at The Silverlake Lounge with my best friend, Rachel, under the name Lazy River Presents.  

One evening I invited a guy I thought was cute out to the event, and while my co-host was running the show, we went to talk on the back patio.  I lost track of time; we had so much fun.  During the next week, while I was a teacher’s assistant for Adrianne Lenker’s School of Song course, I wrote this song.

Although we didn’t work out romantically, the meaning of the song has grown for me to reflect the many incredible connections I’ve made with folks each week at the mic. 

Due to a change in ownership, this iteration of the bar and its programming is coming to an end.  I decided to put this song out on Tuesday, July 30th, 2024, the final night of our open mic.  Although we are saddened to lose an important space for our community, we are grateful for our time there.  We look forward to what’s next.  Stay tuned!

The Dive Bar

Inspired by the dance floors of Los Angeles and the vulnerability of singer-songwriters, Zach shares his music as an offering to deep dive within ourselves and dance to a place of joy.

Originally from Kansas, Zach moved to Los Angeles in 2017 with a business degree and a laundry list of accomplishments to make his mother proud.  Since then, he has toured the world as tour manager for now A-List artists, developed an alter ego as a drag queen, and started a songwriters open mic where he hones his craft performing new songs each week.
