My impression is that John Cook is correct in recommending not to attempt to convert the small percentage of deniers. It's still worth learning the scientific arguments one would use against them (which skeptical science.org does so well).

Science denial is caused by pro AGW or "alarmists" going against the very capitalism needed to solve the problem. At least, that would be my reason for being a denyer. Most "alarmists" don't want utility scale solar and wind in "their" backyard. Most cry global warming (and so do I) but do not want molten salt nuclear, mining for battery materials and other exponential clean energy solutions. Instead, they seem to only want to socialize America.

Thanks for the interesting interview.  You mention that "conservative" presenters etc. speak with bold statements. But we have a bigger problem. We climate action advocates have the bolder statements, yet we are called alarmist. The denialists need only sow some doubt to foil the massive coordinated effort required to avoid the worst scenarios. Some of them do speak in nuance. There was a recent interview with a new counterpart of Greta Thunberg, a young firl from Germany, saying that the warming is not that fast and we need to use fossil fuels to keep our economies going, so we should be "climate realists", not "alarmists".
