The self styled ‘Mixtape Champion of the World’, Chris Read joins forces with MPM Recording Artist and 2 time ITF Champion Marc Hype to present what they’re humbly calling ‘The World’s Greatest Christmas Mixtape’; 

These two seasoned DJs and record collectors have produced two mixes which take in everything that Christmas music has to offer, from Funk, Soul, Jazz and Hip Hop to Children’s records, Reggae and Latin with a handful of better known Christmas classics thrown in for good measure. 

All intended to be taken in good humour and a dose of Christmas cheer, ‘The World’s Greatest Christmas Mixtape’ is the alternative soundtrack to Christmas. 

Chris Read is currently working on a new live / studio project anticipated for release in 2010. Marc Hype and Jim Dunloop’s Album ‘Stamp Out Reality’ on MPM records is in stores now. Both Chris Read and Marc Hype will tour extensively in 2010.

It has been pretty challenging, but these tracks bring me right back to the beginning of learning the mass amount of power music holds within us. Movement. Emotion. Compassion.. Music never ceases to allow us to let go and give in to the waves of sound. So, I felt the need to put this out there, once and for all. I dedicate this to the old at soul and to those who do not fear the feeling of surrender.

This time last year Music of Substance's Chris Read and I got together to compile a mixtape of funky and unusual Christmas records that we modestly called the "World's Greatest Christmas Mixtape". For what started out as a bit of fun, the response was pretty incredible with thousands of downloads in just a week or so. We joked at the time that we had enough records left over to have done it twice so, with the Christmas season coming round again, we figured we'd go for it a second time. The result is what we're even less seriously calling the "World's Second Greatest Christmas Mixtape".As with volume 1, there's a mix of funk, soul, 80s hip hop, reggae, jazz and much more, all with that Christmas theme. Zack Darling is a mashup, bass/dubstep, house, downtempo, yoga and reggae DJ from Northern California who is widely known for a diverse and eclectic style of dance music.

Zack is a 2-time winner oF the “Best DJ in the North Bay” award and has shared the stage with artist such as Mix Master Mike, Michael Franti, Slightly Stoopid, Metallica, Matisyahu, Rebelution, Phutureprimitive, Beats Antique, Delhi 2 Dublin, Kayla Scintilla and countless festival headliner artists and DJs. He’s played at venues such as The Fillmore (SF), Shoreline Amphitheater, Regency Ballroom as well as some of the biggest festivals, concerts and nightclubs around the US West Coast. Zack’s music has been featured at Wanderlust Festival, Enchanted Forest Festival, Symbiosis Gathering, Lightning in a Bottle, Envision Festival, Raindance Festival, Hardly Strictly Bluegrass, BottleRock Napa Valley, Ecstatic Dance Oakland, Burning Man, Lucidity Festival, Emerald Cup, Northern Nights, Bliss Camp, HushFest, Foreverland and the legendary Skunk Train parties.

Zack continues to feed the flames of the music community through his event production and emcee efforts. For 13 years he was the lead producer of Harmony Festival’s Mystic Beat Lounge Techno-Tribal Dance, After Dark Producer for Harmony Festival, North Bay Burning Man Regional Contact (2005-2011), co-founder of the nightclub event Decadance and resident DJ at the legendary party Juke Joint. He has emceed for Wakarusa Festival, Reggae on the River, Northern Nights and many others. 

Zack’s fanbase is loyal and enthusiastic for his positive energy and uplifting tracks that frequently offer the audience the chance to sing their favorite lyrics as they dance the night away.
