This song is about the fact that we are all one but some people decide to raise themselves way too high above people and consequently fuck up many lives.

Thant reminds them of what we truly are
And what we could really be

We are all  in this together
Whether or not you acknowledge the tether
That ties and binds us -  birds of feather
Words  to help you remember 
 A time beyond time
Wrapped in forever 
Of beginnings ending never
In this ephemeral temporal temple 
We tamper with mental tendencies 
 and maladies - adapting to 
 Tragedy, calamity, insanity
 attempting to claim a sense of individuality 

But is an individual really that free?
Isolated from his own extended family tree
Hiding high in towers from those down beneath
 Keeping position of power and his heart far out of reach
 I’m usually not the type to write out and give a speech
 But if I have something to say I might as well start to preach
 If I have any wisdom it  would be wrong not to teach  
Anything thats mine was never all mine to keep

You say you are free but I hear your chains rattle
Walking to and from no different than a common cattle 
Somethings wrong if you don’t know its a battle 
For your mind and soul so find a way to stay agile 
Any moment they can shut down your revenue 
Take your house and cars and kids so easily  from you
With just one command machine kicks into gear 
Making damn sure you know exactly who to fear 

So keep telling me about your liberation
when you’re in a prison nation
This is not a fantasy you’re living in
Giving your  identity to a massive entity
Working hard for pennies for the price all your energy
And the Empathy is lost in these monsters 
Honestly I’m convinced they have no conscience
Constantly crossing boundaries no one should ever reach
With all that money they probably feel like everyone is the enemy

 they hire  entire armies  to keep us tired on our knees
 legions of swat teams, federals  and the police  
Any civil unrest is a punishable crime
Just Keep your head down off the radar and in line
You have the right to remain silent, if you’re violent
They will silence you, open fire with no chance to make it though
If you want to rise they got devices  spying the sky
Gps trackers an cameras have you in their sight

For this Disquiet assignment (my first in quite some time), I explored the articles on space.com that concerned Jonathon Keats' work, when i stumbled across "The show had its own soundtrack, too, which was tweaked to match the entropy of the universe. Keats randomized 25 percent of the notes in Johann Sebastian Bach's "Well-Tempered Clavier," because, he said, the universe is one-quarter of the way to "heat death," or total disorderliness." The idea of using maths to create, organize or manipulate music is nothing new, yet a theme i constantly find myself exploring within my own work, whether using hard or soft synced LFOs to manipulate musical parameters, or just faced with the grid based interface of Ableton.

So adapting the idea of a quarter of chaos, and wanting to contrast this with romantic ideas of cosmic order, i found a decent set of MIDI parts for Gustav Holst's Planets Suite and then applied various randomizations to both the notation and instrumentation to "Jupiter", which resulted in something quite distinct to the original work.

Note: I apologize for the occasional pops of sound - nothing speaker destroying, but it annoys me and it shouldn't be there.

Continuum1 -- [disquiet0373]

Step 1: Take a recording. Glitch it.

Step 2: Glitch it a second time, in some different manner, and try to have moments where the initial glitch remains evident and untarnished (well, un-further-tarnished

For this piece i took a field recording of a electromagnetic squeal i had recorded, which i fed into Ableton's sampler, which was automated by random LFO's to create the first stage of glitch processing. The next layer of glitching involved running that sound source through randomly triggered fx (Glitch2 and Ableton's Ping Pong delay) with randomly determined values for the paramaters. This results in a stuttering of on/off functions sometimes revealing the source material and sometimes totally rearranging it).

Electromagnetic Variations - disquiet0374

for this one I re-glitched this following glitchy track:

itself glitched using a piece of code written in ChucK that sweeps filter frequencies around a fuzzed-out oscillator. 

I put this track into a sample granulator I wrote in ChucK which allows me to use a MIDI controller to control eight parameters: grain length, grain position in the sample, pitch of the sample, degree of randomness in pitch, degree of randomness in position, reverb level, echo level, and gain. I then manipulated these parameters and recorded the result. I never play the full original sample (it would make the piece too long) but you can hear hints of it here and there.
