Combining charismatic braggadocio with an assured vocal style, Lambeth rapper Zee Numbers burst into the UK scene in the late 2010s with his infectiously dark trap sonics. Growing up in Brixton Hill, South London, rapper Zee Numbers experienced the “crabs in a bucket” mentality of the trenches from an early age – an ethos that manifested heavily in the gloomy narratives of his music. Coming up in the rap game as part of collective FinesseSquad, Zee debuted in 2018 with the flex-heavy “Why You Mad,” a brooding trap anthem made in collaboration with Jug1. Through early singles including “Heavyweight” and “RealMobTies,” the musician demonstrated his talent for creating compelling verses, delivering stories of tight-knit loyalty, high-calibre fashions and street-level hustling with an effortless swagger. With his latest single “Ever Since” showing the rapper’s dexterity over ominous drill production, and a full-length project on the way, 2021 is primed to be Zee’s most prolific year to date. ~ David Crone
