Doing Time With Bill Spencer & Sholto

May 15th marks the birthdate of one of our favorite DJs - Roy Thode. Technically masterful, pioneering some of the most progressive methods in DJing whilst manifesting an exceptionally educated and tasteful selection of music, Roy Thode is truly an artist when it comes to the craft of DJing. Personally, as DJs, we've learned so much from listening to Roy Thode, 40 years later he continues to inspire us in such relevant ways. 

Roy Thode, a native New Yorker from Long Island, moved to the city in his early 20’s after establishing his DJ skills as a young man growing up in Wantaugh. Roy was perhaps best known for being the DJ for “Saturday Nights at the Ice Palace” in Cherry Grove. His NYC DJ career was highlighted with residencies at both Studio 54 and The Saint however it was the Long Island Gay club scene that fueled and created the foundation for Roy’s illustrious career as perhaps one of the best technical DJ’s of his era.

This mix was recorded at the Ice Palace - in many ways, his home. Being able to share this previously unreleased mix is a tremendous honor for us and we hope you can appreciate this as much as we do. A huge thank you to Marsha Stern for working with us and making this little project a reality.

This synth hoarder, vinyl juggler, and deep sea enthousiast’s musical journey has taken him all over the place in the past decade - DJ’ing, producing, and performing under various aliases with different styles before settling under his given name on stage. With his live synth sets he’s torn it up in venues like Radion and Claire (RIP) to name a few, and his DJ sets have taken him to many more. Offstage his nimble knack for production and ever-expanding synth collection have resulted in releases on @PatronRec and the Everyone On Acid imprint(@kegffnayy_everyoneonacid). 

For the next hour Lennard Ypma plunges into a realm of the mighty Drexciyan warriors where raw 303 driven electro, scuffed breaks, and rough irradiating waves of discordant synth pressure reign supreme.

For anyone who's caught a Tony Neptune set, either online or offline, you'll know the Leeds DJ, producer and Dimensions DJ Directory member doesn't do things in half measures. 

As both Tony and his other alias Yuri - a tip of the hat to Yuri Gagarin, the first human to journey into outer space - he's no stranger to 6-hour long mixes, sometimes immortalised in his lengthy back-to-backs with fellow Leeds DJ Mark 'Turbo' Turner. 

Last month he shared his first productions with the world; a debut EP titled Reflections on a Daring Escape that moves through emotive electro and further serves as a vehicle for Neptune to tell a story for the senses, by combining his own visual paintings with the music. 

In typical fashion for his Shine A Light On mix he delivers a live recording from his three hour set at Gut Level, a party in Sheffield, just before lockdown commenced. A journey through everything from oddball wave to slow industrial, EBM, new wave and electro, the mix picks up the pace continuing to build until its climax...

Another unplanned CKFM hiatus is now broken with a storming mix from Berlin base DJ Mars Leder. 

A resident for the Warning crew who's raves at clubs such as ://about blank are renowned for their boundlessness and musical diversity.
Mars presents a wide range of club and non-club music, always with a big love for interesting rhythms and broken beats.

It's been a while since we dropped something fresh. However, it seems like we have the perfect recipe against a drooly day like today.  Vladi and UNVRSE recorded a very diverse mix when it comes to styles and vibes. Starting off with some slowed down trance, playing around with some broken and exotic beats and at the end high energy rollers. Prepare to make your living room a little rave, cause it sure is time to get down.

Porcelain Podcast #24 By Vladi Boroday & UNVRSE

It's almost been a year since the pandemic hit and turned our world upside down and there still seems some way to go until we can get together and celebrate life in all its glory. In order to keep us going and not get overrun by Winter depression, we invited our buddy Fedde aka Bobby Cazanova to spread some positive vibes. 

Bobby Cazanova (real name Federico Icaza Graue)is a producer and DJ from Mexico City based in Berlin. Throughout the last years he had releases on labels such as Cologne's young but already impressive Hen & Goose Records and London's Childsplay. You might have also run into him around Else, where he helped to keep up the last bastion of open-air locations, taking care that the soundsystem always is on point.

For Loser Records, he explored music and sounds of Europe from as early as 1965 (Marlene Dietrich) and as new as Donato Dozzy's latest project (Il Quadro di Troisi) released in 2020. The mix consists of some rare gems out of his vinyl collection, including records from Germany, the United Kingdom, Lithuania, Italy, Switzerland, Portugal, Norway, the former USSR and finally as the only exception to Europe, Australia.

There could not have been any better timing for this mix, celebrating the diversity of European music and reminding us we are all in this together.

We say thank you Fedde for spreading some love in desperate times!
