Premiered by Hezarfen Ensemble in June, 2022 at Arter Contemporary Art Museum, Istanbul.

The word “Aphotic” means the deep zone of the ocean that receives suboptimal illumination. This title alludes to the perception the ears create when detecting “pure elements” in a crowded texture, resembling the perception of light in pure darkness. The piece seeks the musical equivalent of the elements of an organic component, varying constantly in itself and transforming simultaneously by interacting with each other. Throughout the piece, the delicate interrelations between elements stimulate sensibility to details and provide a critical listening experience.

Füsun Köksal String Quartet No 1

Zelal Aktaş started her music and piano career when she was 13. She was accepted to the Bilkent University Faculty of Music and Performing Arts, Music Preparatory High School, in 2019 with a scholarship and started studying piano with Dr. Oliver Jia.

Aktas received the first prize in the "Grand Prize Virtuoso International Music" competition held in Germany between 19-24 October 2020 and was invited to perform at the gala concert held at Beethoven House in Bonn, Germany, in August 2021. In December 2020, she received the first prize in the "Golden Classical Music Awards" competition held in New York, USA, and she will play at Carnegie Hall Weill Recital Hall, one of the most famous and prestigious concert halls in the world in 2022. 

She attended the masterclass of Prof. Adiba Sharipova. As an active member, she participated in the "Digital Scoring" Workshop organized by Prof. Craig Vear.

At the "VI. Bilkent Music Days," which was held between March 2 and March 30, she performed in the concert titled “Young Masters” on March 30, Ludwig van Beethoven's "Piano Quartet in E flat Major WoO 36 No.1" as a member of the "Quartet Quattro e Mezzo."

Aktas' "Four Miniatures for Solo Flute," which she wrote for solo flute, was selected to be performed by "Ensemble Handwerk" from Germany at the "2022 İzmir New Music Days" which will be held in İzmir on May 25. The premiere of "Four Miniatures for Solo Flute" was performed by Daniel Agi-"Ensemble Handwerk" on May 25, 2022.

Aktas, with her "Four Miniatures for Solo Flute," won the second prize with the highest score in the "Young Composers" category and also in all the other categories at the "Academia Musica" international composition competition held in Austria in April. 

She attended Dr. Klaus Lang's masterclass.

She continues her piano studies with Dr. Oliver Jia in Bilkent University Faculty of Music and Performing Arts.
