Lyrically, I wrote this song in recognition of my parents who have just passed the 50 year marriage mark, however when I visit them I always feel a sense of sadness.  Not for them, for myself; as if time is passing too quickly. Their home is filled with memories of their 50 years together, original photos, quiet after raising children, dusty trinkets that I find pointless to hold onto.  So many memories, it's almost overwhelming.  But what I love about my parents is that they still have dreams and aspirations.  My Dad is building a boat! My Mum is becoming a mini-celebrity in her Playwright/Acting world. They still have so many adventures together. 

Musically, I wanted this song vintage sounding. I love the Mamas and Papas 60's Baroque style.  I also love Music Hall, Parlor Music, Gershwin etc. and tried musically to capture some of those nuances.  I always struggle with genres ... you tell me what you think it is!!  This is a romantic love song, but at the same time I wanted people to tap their toes. Did I manage it?

Versions of You takes a single track and fractures it into fourteen alternate Quantum me worlds — each one revealing a different shape the story could take if the moment, the mood, or the narrator were just a degree to the left.

From glitch-folk confessions to neon-lit electro-soul, from whispered ASMR heartbreak to full-throttle trap, each version is its own universe: new chord colours, new emotional physics, new versions of the same truth. Some tracks feel intimate enough to touch; others feel like they’re broadcast from a future where your memories have been remixed without permission.

What stays the same is the centre of gravity, the ache and loss at the centre of the song about the love wearing out.

Whether you start at Version 1 or jump into the deep end at Version 14, each track refracts the same lyric through a different lens — digital, human, nostalgic, brutal, ecstatic, quiet, cinematic. Over the full album, the song becomes a prism: turn it once, you hear longing; turn it again, you hear defiance; turn it again, you hear relief.

This is not a remix album.
It’s a mirror maze.
And every reflection is a version of you.

Above Velvet Air is a space for complete creative freedom—a project where I write, produce, and perform everything myself, from the music to the visuals.

Most may know me as the frontman of December Avenue, but Above Velvet Air is something different—an outlet for raw, intimate storytelling, created with no boundaries or expectations. Every vocal, every layer, every texture is intentional, carefully constructed to bring each song to life exactly as I envision it.

This project is personal. It’s about capturing the quiet moments, the emotions in between, and the way music connects us to something deeper. Becoming a father changed how I see the world, and that shift naturally found its way into these songs.

The journey begins with “Close to Me”, a song about longing and distance. This is just the beginning.
