« A quarante ans, je continuais à porter des mini-jupes, des motifs extravagants, du rose, du ﬂuorescent, des étoiles en guise de boucle d’oreilles. Je continuais de me balader avec mon chapeau léopard, mon sac-peluche, mon ensemble à ﬂeurs, et puis j’ai senti dans le regard des autres que je n’avais plus l’âge pour le faire. Je suis pourtant la même qu’à mes 16 ans, c’est les autres que je vois changer » 
 On ne peut mieux décrire ce qu’est le vieillissement, sinon dans cet écart qui nait et ne cesse de croître, entre réalité physique et image spéculaire de soi : L’une s’abîme avec le temps, exposée aux lois cruelles de la pesanteur et de l’oxydation, l’autre, ne vieillit pas, reste intacte et vierge de toute altération, ﬁgée à un moment où l’on se sentait bien. Plus le temps passe, plus l’écart qui se creuse devient monde. Il peut en devenir si douloureux que beaucoup cherchent à y échapper, usant et abusant de tous les artiﬁces. 
 Youth looks so good on you est une balade sonore explorant avec étrangeté le monde intérmédiaire qui se trouve entre réalité et fanstame de soi, un monde où le culte esthétique de la jeunesse se fait le souverain du peuple.

Naomie Klaus est une productrice de musique et chanteuse française, basée à Bruxelles. Se considérant comme une actrice ratée, elle construit sa musique sous forme d’histoires et de micro-séquences dans lesquelles elle s’amuse à interpréter différents personnages avec sa voix. Elle évoque un conte de fées pour adultes, où les princesses que l’on rencontre sont des nymphomanes hystériques, armées et mal habillées.

Nour Sokhon is a Lebanese artist based in Berlin, Germany. Her creative practice is centered around exploring different methods of working with artistic research including interview material, field recordings and recorded material from an organized site specific intervention. The research is then translated into sound/music compositions, performances, interactive installations and moving image work.
In 2014, Nour achieved an undergraduate degree in Fine Arts from the American University in Dubai, and in 2017 she culminated a large scale project; a documentary entitled ‘People on Sound’, as part of her Master’s degree in Sound for the Moving Image at the Glasgow School of Art in the UK. In 2019, Nour received the Emerging Artist Prize at the Sursock Museum in Lebanon, for a moving image piece entitled ‘Revisiting: Hold Your Breath’.

We collaborated with Palestinian sound platform Zilzal to host what was to become a listening session for Le Guess Who's local programme U?

Due to the bombings in Gaza at the time, the artists took the opportunity to express their current mental situation, and thus the evening at the former Pieter Baan Centre turned out a lot more energetic and emotional. We were really happy to be able to provide a platform for the artists to express themselves, and we could not have asked for a better crowd <3

Hi! This is my first mix inspired by my trip to India. I was also inspired by different cultures that I have met in life. An involved presence in the world is very important to me, and this mix brings me back to what is happening here and now. You can listen to it in your sacred place to fulfill yourself with kindness and good vibes. You can listen to it also if you are searching for peace in your soul. Thank all of the artists for their beautiful music art pieces! I hope to please you with music that helps me be here and feel love in every moment.

core is a feedback loop of the fsh-1 frequency shifter, inside the loop is c0 and mmf-1. modulated by r*s dsg. rhythm and pads itb.

one output of the fsh-1 goes into the c0 delay (the delay is crucial in this patch, most of the sound gets produced here), the output of the delay goes into a limiter and then back in one input of the fsh-1.
another ouput of the fsh-1 goes into the mmf-1 filter in dual bandpass mode, from there the signal goes again into a limiter and into the second input of the fsh-1.
this is now the basic closed feedback loop, i listen to the mix output of the fsh-1.
by playing around with all the settings i get different tones, again, the delay is crucial here, how much feedback is determined by the limiter and general volume controls or frequency controls of all three modules... now to get a rhythmic patterns going i plugged this "bouncing ball" envelope into the second input of the filter, that is enough to only get feedback at the high portions of the envelope eg i get a rhythmic feedback pattern. variations in tone by manual control of the bandpass settings and the delay time plus occasional tweaks at the limiter section for louder or more distorted feedback. the patch is delicate, i tried to replicate it and i wasnt able to come close to these tones, but other great ones:) enjoy modular synthesis!

Just before 2020 comes to an end, Berlin-based artist @leozylberberg graces this crazy (!) year  with an oddball of a track: “Sheshells” is a total earworm and at the same time a bit off, maybe. It’s chill, it’s haunted, and it might be the most appropriate end to 2020 one can imagine. “Despite its imperfections, it feels like some sort of antidote to something,” as the Australian artist puts it herself.

Sheshells is published as a digital single. It features an artwork from Paris-based graphic designer and art director Olga Prader’s Ftantasy series. The track is Präsens Editionen’s fourth audio release in 2020, following music by Remo Helfenstein, @samuelreinhard , and @damexlove , that is ranging from gospel and dark ambient-informed lullabies to proper sad-boy-reggaeton-heat.

Zylberberg is a mainstay at @sameheads , Berlin’s most infamous pub / fashion store / club / art space / what not. In 2017, she came to attention with a split tape realized with the wonderful Belia Winnewisser. Earlier this year, the Australian artist published Greatestings on @noisekoelln , a label that came back to life just for this highly limited 10” after a four-year period of inactivity. Zylberberg is part of Balance Crew alongside partner in crime @dane-close .
