Skybox EP [OUT NOW!]

Setting this track free is a bittersweet moment. On one hand, it's simply a cover of Chemise's 1982 hit "She Can't Love You." It's a disco and boogie classic, done many times, many ways. I recorded it in November, and kept it around without really knowing what to do with it. I apologize for the shoddy mix (and the lyric I goofed). The cool thing is that as far as I know, a man has never recorded a cover. 

In light of the mass murder in Orlando, I wanted to show support for the people there, and LGBTQ people across the world. When I came out to my parents, I was a sophomore in high school. Even before acknowledging I was gay myself, I was bullied and mistreated into depression and denial. However, the support I received from my friends and family was unconditional and overwhelming.

Many aren't so lucky. Due to religion, politics, stigma, or law, millions of gay people are forced into the shadows, silenced, punished severely, or killed. Even in the United States, a country with a long history of granting unique rights to its citizens, there is still a great gap in equality.

Inside all of us is a capacity for violence. Our species is infamous for it. But in this age, the right sort of violence could destroy us completely. We must begin to construct instead of destroy. Wherever you see hatred, bigotry, or violence, stand up to it. Show that we are all the same frightened, fragile creatures. Show that we are not different at all. 

You can't imagine the good that vocal support does for young gay people and their families. The outpouring of love after this most recent tragedy has been just one example. Rumors of the gunman in Orlando visiting the club he subsequently targeted hint at something more tragic: the confused reaction of someone who was repressed himself. You never know whose life you may be affecting by expressing your support.

phuture : Speaking of art, which role does it play in our society? What role could it portray?

Zero Tep : Art is a tool for ideas that might not be able to be expressed in any other way. It is also a tool for overcoming roadblocks. A change in perception or a momentary lapse in ego might be all we need to see a problem differently.

K The Infinite : Art gives people a voice. It gives society a mirror to look at itself, however beautiful or ugly it may be.
