Slime is proud to present the second installment in its Future Sound of Garage series.

The first volume was an unparalleled success for the label, debuting at #1 in the Juno Download UKG Album Chart and remaining there for the five months following, with the retailer stating “this collection neatly joins the dots between post dubstep bass music, dark house and garage with a vision that will still sound sharp in years to come.” The ten track compilation received huge support across the garage DJ community with substantial airplay on Radio 1Xtra, Rinse FM and Captial Xtra, as well as being exemplified by Beatport as the reason Slime is “one of the most substantive, interesting labels around”.

For the 2015 edition, the imprint has expanded its ambitions and compiled 28 exclusive tracks that cover the full spectrum of the sound from some of the leading lights in the new wave of garage producers from around the world. As a document of a resurgent scene it is wholly comprehensive, containing a multitude of styles to provide an essential package of dancefloor anthems for the discerning DJ or connoisseur of UKG – and further reinforcing Slime as the home of forward-thinking bass music.

Downplay is proud to present ‘Skin’, the brand new EP from Birmingham production duo Royal Flush.

Kicking off the imprint in style, ‘Skin’ employs a well-loved vocal set to a skittering 2-step groove, chopping bars against subtly melodic keys and intricately deployed percussion, before then letting the rhythm hit you in a 4x4 switch-up on the second drop to really raise the roof.

‘Got My Self Together’ mines similar soulful material, pitching a diva vocal sample alongside soothing chords and glittering FX to mesmerizing effect.

‘Hold Me Down’ alters the template again with a summertime jam complete with sensual vocals, bubbling basslines and a classic UKG beat that brings the whole track together beautifully.

Skin

Royal Flush - Skin (DWN001)

25 years after the emergence of UK Garage music, to this day the sound is well loved. After the golden first ten year stretch, came a period of time which was coined “the lost years” (2003 -
2010, where new producers emerged and kept the sound alive. Sub genres emerged. Bassline, Dubstep, Grime, and UK Funky all thrived whilst the traditional sound of UK Garage was very much in its own bubble.
The return of new UK Garage music from 2011 gave the genre the boost it needed.
New producers got the attention they deserved, legendary producers returned, and since then more and more events have surfaced showcasing both Old Skool Garage, and new Garage music.
There is a very clear throwback side to the genre which is still extremely popular today. The classics remain embedded in the genre’s history. Additionally, the Bassline scene has also made a successful return and progressed a great deal internationally too.
It’s now the turn of the new underground sound of UK Garage to find its own pocket. The genre has brought together many like minded collaborators who all share the love and enthusiasm for the genre, performing together at similar events and pushing the new sound forward.
Garage & Bass has merged, taking on the vibe of yesteryear but updating its sound for today's ravers. Producers such as Mind Of A Dragon (MOAD), Smokey Bubblin B, Mike Delinquent, Blakk Habit and other artists/producers who are truly dedicated to the genre they represent, feature on this very compilation, ‘The World Of Garage And Bass’.
A project which was originally started life as a 5 track EP, suddenly grew and grew with the help of social media. New producer/artists and established ones alike caught wind of the idea and wanted to be involved, and the resulting 29 tracks sound like an exciting body of work!
Look out for tracks such as "Rays" (Blakk Habit and MOAD ft Cecelia), "Pump It Up" (Smokey Bubblin' B and Evil B vs B Live), and "Fabric" (P Money & Mike Delinquent) which all portray the variety you can find within the sound.
‘The World Of Garage And Bass’ is released on Zeus Sound Records on March 2nd, 2018.

Blakk Habit X Mind Of A Dragon Feat Cecelia - "Rays"

Since being launched as a sister label to Slime Recordings at the start of the year, Downplay are almost 2 releases deep, with both EPs featuring vibrant UK Garage from refreshingly creative artists, the second of which is Kazumi Anzai's 'Beehive', which is due to drop on February 23rd. We've been given the remix of 'Beehive' to premiere, and Context has done a great job of keeping the essence of the original intact whilst providing a fresh vibe.
