DUA ASKING FOR A GOOD DEATH | PROTECTION FROM SHAYTAN AT THE TIME OF DEATH

It was narrated that Abu’l-Yusr (may Allaah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) used to say: 

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْهَدْمِ [وَالْغَمِّ] وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ التَّرَدِّي وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ الْغَرَقِ وَالْحَرَقِ وَالْهَرَمِ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ يَتَخَبَّطَنِي الشَّيْطَانُ عِنْدَ الْمَوْتِ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ أَمُوتَ فِي سَبِيلِكَ مُدْبِرًا وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ أَمُوتَ لَدِيغًا

Allaahumma inni a’oodhu bika min al-hadmi [wal gham] wa a’oodhu bika min at-taraddi wa a’oodhu bika min al-gharaqi, wa’l-hareeqi, wa'l harami, wa a’oodhu bika an yatakhabbatanish -shaytaan ‘inda al-mawti, wa a’oodhu bika an amoota fi sabeelika mudbiran, wa a’oodhu bika an amoota ladeeghan

("O Allah, I seek refuge in You from my house falling on me [and from sorrow], I seek refuge in You from falling into an abyss, I seek refuge in You from drowning, burning and decrepitude. I seek refuge in You from the devil harming me at the time of my death, I seek refuge in You from dying in Your path while retreating, and I seek refuge in You from dying of the sting of a poisonous creature.")

[Narrated by Abu Dawood 1552/53, Ahmad, 14 (303), 8667, and al-Tabarani in al-Kabir, 19/ 170,  classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Sahih Sunan Abi Dawood, 5/275]

Another narration: 

اللَّهُمَّ إِنِّي أَعُوذُ بِكَ مِنَ التَّرَدِّي وَالْهَدْمِ وَالْغَرَقِ وَالْحَرِيقِ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ يَتَخَبَّطَنِي الشَّيْطَانُ عِنْدَ الْمَوْتِ وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ أَمُوتَ فِي سَبِيلِكَ مُدْبِرًا وَأَعُوذُ بِكَ أَنْ أَمُوتَ لَدِيغًا ‏"

“Allaahumma inni a’oodhu bika min al-taraddi wa’l-hadmi wa’l-gharaqi wa’l-hareeq, wa a’oodhu bika an yatakhabbatani al-shaytaan ‘inda al-mawti, wa a’oodhu bika an amoota fi sabeelika mudbiran, wa a’oodhu bika an amoota ladeeghan

(O Allaah, I seek refuge with You from falling from a high place, being crushed (beneath a falling building etc), drowning and burning, and I seek refuge with You from being overpowered by the Shaytaan at the time of death, and I seek refuge with You from being killed (in jihad) for Your sake when fleeing from battle, and I seek refuge with You from dying from a scorpion sting or snake bite.”)

[Narrated by al-Nasaa’i (5531) and by al-Haakim in al-Mustadrak (1/713). He said: Its isnaad is saheeh although they (al-Bukhaari and Muslim) did not narrate it. Al-Haafiz Ibn Hajar said in Badhal al-Ma’oon (199): it is proven. It was classed as saheeh by al-Albaani in Saheeh al-Nasaa’i.]

DUA TO KEEP YOUR HEART FIRM ON THE DEEN

ربنا لا تزغ قلوبنا بعد إذ هديتنا وهب لنا من لدنك رحمة إنك أنت الوهاب

رَبَّنَا إِنَّكَ جَامِعُ النَّاسِ لِيَوْمٍ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهِ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُخْلِفُ الْمِيعَادَ

Rabbana la tuzigh quloobanabaAAda ith hadaytana wahab lana min ladunkarahmatan innaka anta alwahhab

Rabbana innaka jamiAAu alnnasi liyawmin la rayba feehi inna Allaha la yukhlifu almeeAAada

“Our Lord, let not our hearts deviate after You have guided us and grant us from Yourself mercy. Indeed, You are the Bestower.

Our Lord, surely You will gather the people for a Day about which there is no doubt. Indeed, Allah does not fail in His promise."

[Surah Al-Imran: 8-9]

The following is taken from Tafsir Ibn Kathir:

إِذْ هَدَيْتَنَا

(Our Lord! Let not our hearts deviate (from the truth) after You have guided us.) meaning, “Do not deviate our hearts from the guidance after You allowed them to acquire it. Do not make us like those who have wickedness in their hearts, those who follow the Mutashabih in the Qur’an. Rather, make us remain firmly on Your straight path and true religion.”

وَهَبْ لَنَا مِن لَّدُنكَ

(And grant us from Ladunka) meaning, from You,

رَحْمَةً

(Mercy) with which You make our hearts firm, and increase in our Faith and certainty,

إِنَّكَ أَنتَ الْوَهَّابُ

(Truly, You are the Bestower)

Ibn Abi Hatim and Ibn Jarir recorded that Umm Salamah said that the Prophet used to supplicate,

يَا مُقَلِّبَ الْقُلُوبِ ثَبِّتْ قَلْبِي عَلَى دِينِك

Ya muqallib al-quloob thabbit qalbi 'ala deenik (O Controller of the hearts, make my heart adhere firmly to Your religion)

He then recited,

رَبَّنَا لاَ تُزِغْ قُلُوبَنَا بَعْدَ إِذْ هَدَيْتَنَا وَهَبْ لَنَا مِن لَّدُنكَ رَحْمَةً إِنَّكَ أَنتَ الْوَهَّابُ

“Our Lord! Let not our hearts deviate (from the truth) after You have guided us, and grant us mercy from You. Truly, You are the Bestower.” Surah Al-i-Imran [3:8]

رَبَّنَا إِنَّكَ جَامِعُ النَّاسِ لِيَوْمٍ لَا رَيْبَ فِيهِ ۚ إِنَّ اللَّهَ لَا يُخْلِفُ الْمِيعَادَ

("Our Lord! Verily, it is You Who will gather mankind together on the Day about which there is no doubt'') meaning, they say in their supplication: O our Lord! You will gather Your creation on the Day of Return, judge between them and decide over what they disputed about. Thereafter, You will reward or punish each according to the deeds they did in this life.
