BIO

Le Droit entered the world in the mid-1980s via Cape Canaveral. After years of service as the preferred footwear of celebrity astronauts (notably Tom Hanks), Le Droit came to life during a classified experiment aboard the International Space Station. Little is known of what actually transpired aboard the shuttle, but in short, Le Droit became a sentient creature, equipped with reason, intuition, and groove. Before long, he grew tired of working for the space-military-industrial complex and found solace in the soothing sounds of underground disco and R&B boogie records. He knew it was only of matter of time before he was hung up like so many boots before him. He abandoned the program and used his savings to build a studio in an unnamed location, where he is currently working.

Sister Polygon Records was founded in Washington, DC in 2012 by members of the band Priests. Initially created as a vehicle to release their first 7” single (featuring the songs “Radiation” and “Personal Planes”), the label was soon releasing music by bands and artists with whom they’d shared a bill and admired, including Downtown Boys, Shady Hawkins, and Neonates. SPR has been home to a constellation of acts emerging acts from the DC, Maryland and Virginia area, including Snail Mail, Gauche, Sneaks, Flasher, and Hothead. Priests’ Nothing Feels Natural was Sister Polygon’s first full-length LP released on vinyl in 2017. Secretly Distribution now carries Sister Polygon Records’ releases worldwide, and probably in an independent record store near you.

For Mock Identity, the sum is both greater than, and equal to, its parts. Comprised of some of the D.C. experimental music scene’s most innovative and forward-thinking musicians—vocalist Adriana-Lucia Cotes (Antonia), guitarist Jeff Barsky (Insect Factory), bassist Joshua David Hoffman (Supersonic Piss), and percussionist Nate Scheible—this post-hardcore quartet is a force of musical resistance that sounds miles away from the musical worlds of avant-pop, free jazz, and ambient drone its members come from. 

Of course, that’s a shallow way of defining a band that contains multitudes. Formed in the winter of 2017, Mock Identity came together as artists with a shared passion of musical experimentation, social awareness, and a desire to disrupt the toxicity infecting society—racism, misogyny, patriarchy, homophobia, transphobia, xenophobia, Islamophobia, anti-semitism, ableism, and white supremacy—in all forms.

Modern, liberated, contemporary, of a broad spectrum, artistic,intellectual, post-organic, vegetative, stress-relieving,experimental, extraordinary. All these adjectives are often applied to
electronic music, with SONIC BELLIGERANZA records (http://sonicbelligeranza.com) things are different.
