Ho ho ho! Merry Xmas everyone! Let me tell you a little story about this track - it is a long one, but I'll cut it short: it's a track from a scene of Control's expansion The Foundation, in the side mission Jesse Faden starring in "Swift Platform".

It all begun with a talk with Remedy Entertainment's Elmeri Raitanen, who worked as an Art Director on the Control expansions - he had an idea, that it would be very, very cool to have a track being played behind an homage to old platformers (there are other homages in the game, too, as you might have noticed), and it would be nice to tie the track into the age of platformers, as well - but in a modern way. Welcome synthwave genre! 

Usually the genre is very faithful to "originals" (whatever they ever might be), but us being Remedy, we tend to bend the concrete, so... "I guess you can't have something by Friday internal demo?" "Ho ho hold my beer..." The most fun I've had in a long while, me fantasizing about going full moroder-ish, whilst wandering through gazebos between the trees where tangerines grow. It was me doing my best as a carpenter with the then era-specific tools, adding something extra to the mix (well, it WAS the 2019 when the track was done), so the stranger things happened there. As a final thing, I added a hectic arpeggiated bassline to replace the original 1/8th thing - and what a drive the track got. Perfect for the scene! 

Gear junkies: the arpeggio where the drums enter comes from Oberheim two-voice, the modern thing. Bassline is my trusty old SE-1x, melody from 1:39 onwards is a combo of Oberheim Xpander and Prophet VS (although the latter was a plugin), and Prophet-6 plays most of the pads with a Jupiter. Some whooshes and effects were from my modular, portamento lead stuff is from my Arp wannabe, the TTSH.

Thanks to this liquid background, Andrew integrates in his music a formidable arsenal of influences ranging from electronic artists like BT, Prodigy, Hybrid and Pendulum to film composers such as James Newton-Howard, Hans Zimmer, Danny Elfman and many more.

A true sound-scientist at heart, Andrew is the lead producer and co-founder of Impact Soundworks, a sound design & sample library development company with an enormous list of users all over the world, including some of the most well-known video game, television and film composers in the industry. If he is not designing a new collection of critically-acclaimed instruments for this company, he can be found concocting synthesizer presets which are similarly widely-used.

Andrew is frequently sighted teaching student composers and game developers at Drexel University or otherwise assisting fellow musicians in the fields of production, mastering, and sound design.
