With release nr. 11, Luv Shack Records are once again eager to exalt the diversity of their releases, while keeping up the quality.

LUV011 is the split EP of the two up and coming electronic music duos "Manhooker" and "Space Echo". Whilst both projects are still relatively new to the scene, they have equally made a stir with their first releases.

Manhooker consists of the two Berliners by choice Tomasz “Guiddo” Switala and Sebastian “Mavin” Magassouba. Their first release appeared on Ostgut Ton´s sublabel 'Unterton' and their second EP was recently released on german heavy hitters 'Sonar Kollektiv' - a collab with ex New Yorker Snax, featuring a remix by Justus Köhncke.

With 'Pushin & Shovin', Manhooker are once again evoking the spirit of classic soulful house hymns. It's an uplifting mix of 90s organs, filtered arpeggios and thick drums all held together by an acid bassline and Mavin´s shimmering vocals. And not to forget the trumpet solo!

The remix of 'Pushin & Shovin' comes from Brazilian wunderkind ROTCIV (who has already remixed Manhooker on their Unterton release). He strips off the smoothness of the original in favor of a more raw and analogue vibe. Its groove seems like a merger of modern electro and classic house, and although ROTCIV´s trademark stabs and pads are used quite ecstatically on this remix, the song structure remains just as strong as in the original.

On The flipside we have Space Echo, the duo of Viennese producer caTekk and (Luv Shack`s very own) Lee Stevens. Their first ever production as a duo was a remix for none other than Austra on Domino Records.

They're offering two equally powerful cuts on the B-side; 'Soul Power' is nothing short of a club burner. A mighty and continuously building ride of funk organs and disco drums, all with a delightfully modern touch. When the vocal kicks in for the first time, ringing in the break, the audience will surely fall into a frenzy when exposed to it! The disco guitars are just the icing on the cake.

'Soul People' takes a slightly more sensual path. Expect dreamy rhodes, dubbed out percussive organs, an almost reggae worthy bassline, a painfully sweet vocal hook and a sharp rhythm that make this track a perfect choice for every warmup, after-hours and daytime set!

With all its ingredients, LUV011 will provide something for everyone who loves electronic music with soul!

The summer of 2011 welcomed the self-titled debut album from Hollie Cook. Hollie’s self-coined ‘Tropical pop’ sound stems from her passion for reggae singers Janet Kay and Phyllis Dillon combined with classic 60s girl groups. The album is produced by friend and collaborator Mike Pelanconi, better known as Prince Fatty. The debut single ‘That Very Night’ is currently making waves across radio, with Steve Lamacq (BBC Radio 2/6 Music), John Kennedy (XFM) and David Rodigan (Kiss) among her many supporters.  The album includes a cover of Shangri-Las’ ‘(Remember) Walkin’ In The Sand)’; transformed from a dark emotive song to one filled with a flavour of hope. The talents of Omar, Dennis Bovell, George Decker (The Pioneers), Style Scott and Horseman also feature across the album.

“If it isn´t broken don´t fix it” goes the saying. And that is definitely the case with Luv Shack 002. After a brilliant opening with 001 why indeed change a winning recipe? So the good people of Luv Shack have done the right thing and opted with another sampler from the same personal and another stonking EP from the boys from Vienna. The exciting thing about the last release was the consistency with all four artists and tracks picking up props from various parts of the Globe. The quality control department at Luv Shack records is obviously in supreme working order with yet another fantastic four for the floor to report on.

Once again, LeSale leads the way like he did on LUV001 with “On the Beach” First thing that hits you is the pull on that bass string. It wobbles from here to eternity and I got to question the size of the fingers of the Mutha that pulls that string. Got the build ups too with some big multi-tier action. Not just happy to sit in monster groove, it´s got some serious breaks and some shake downs that take you definitely to the next level. All about building it up, yeah!

The return too of Burnin Tears is most welcome. Super tight and precise, and with a beautiful warmth and lush deepness. The sort of track I wanna hear in complete darkness. Big claps and hypnotic snyths hold “How I Feel” together, and the pitched down vocal snippet is just plain sexy. I sometimes wish everyone would talk in real life pitched down to this sort of sound.

The B-Side gets off to a flyer with Jakobin & Domino. The nice big healthy dosage of “Jack” in this track is sure to make this a big winner right around peak time. The big throbbing bass also is bound to bust out a sweat in some unsuspecting punter on a dancefloor somewhere.

And as last time, Mr Lee Stevens brings up the rear with ”Reapers of Luv”. Last not least is an apt saying too in this case with this being an absolute stormer and wonderful musical journey. A monstrous moody looping rhythm and some magical interplay make this an epic track to get things really going. Huge!
