SHEA Radio #079: The Hacker

Michel Amato's contribution to electronic music can barely be overstated. As TheHacker, and under different aliases, he has inspired generations of dance music fans and artists. Since his first release in 1996, Amato had a Techno phase, dipped into EBM, sci-fi tinged Electro and New Wave, but is perhaps most famous as a founding father of Electroclash. He met a kindred spirit in Miss Kittin and together they became of one the most iconic duos in electronic music, with hits such as 'Champagne' (1998) and 'Frank Sinatra' (2000) selling hundreds of thousands of records.

In 2004, Amato released his most well-recieved album to date, 'Rêves Mécaniques', and the years since witnessed Amato put out a wide array of club mutations on many leading labels, including a double LP for his own label Zone.

Today, he is as in-demand as ever, with a highly-acclaimed album, 'Le ThéâtreDes Opérations' landing on Dark Entries in 2017 and contributions to tastemakers like Helena Hauff, Erol Alkan and Veronica Vasicka's labels since. In the live and DJ environment, Amato is as revered as he is on record, playing high-profile events such as Dekmantel, Berghain, Nuits Sonores and Off Sonar.

Kri Podcast #15 - Hayter

Schrödinger’s Box welcome Catalonia’s Adrian Marth into the fold. The Iberian artist has been drawing crowds and turning heads with his analogue inspired productions and dancefloor inhibitions. This five tracker sees the Italo Moderni founder explore the glittering angles and brooding shadows of his machines. The punishing percussion and beaming laser lights of “Labyrinth Mind” give way to the tumbling drums and racing synthlines of the addictive “Sex Tonight.” The flip opens with the sleazy grandeur of “Beverly Hills”, looming melodies and retro flourishes combine in this operatic ode to the 1980s. Speaking of the 80s, the inspiration for the penultimate comes from a figure who symbolised the bombastic bravado of the era. “Divine on the Late Show 88” is a tribute to the Pink Flamingos legend, beats sparkle as her sequenced dresses and larger-than-life attitude screams into the present. Danny Wolfers takes the helm to close. Donning his familiar Legowelt moniker, the behemoth of all thing electronics delivers a saturated and spiralling rework of “Divine on the Late Show 88” to the close

Originally from Argentina and now based in California, this DJ and producer duo has forged their musical identity at the perfect crossroads between the dark and the frenetic. Their sound blends deep influences from EBM, industrial, acid and techno, always tinted with a nostalgic devotion to vintage sounds that evoke past eras, yet with a modern and avant-garde projection.

In every set and production, this duo delivers an uncompromising experience that merges intense rhythms, raw textures, and dark atmospheres. Their sound remains true to a dark and authentic aesthetic, always driven by a visceral energy that makes it impossible to resist dancing and getting lost in the rhythm.

New York-based Facets has a passion for all things Dark Synth, Techno, Leftfield, EBM, Proto-House, Electro, New Beat, Acid, Italo-Disco, Balearic, and beyond.

Facets' music has been described as "made for the sweaty confines of the dancefloor's fog-filled spaces—ones that flicker with strobes and neon lights, alight from the energy of the crowd." Hot on the heels of his recent releases on Optimo Music. Dischi Autunno, Ombra International, Skylax, Soil Records,  Khoinix, and Electric Shapes. More original music from Facets will be out soon on Sonic Groove, Pinkman, Blk Market's 12" Party edits, and more.  

Over the years, Facets has released edits on his personal channel and through various outlets, including Calypso's 12" series, Death on Wax, Amor Fati, Ransom Note, Hard Fist, Whypeopledance, and Italo Moderni, to name a few.

Facets has been billed with some of the scene's top talent, such as John Talabot, Ivan Smagghe,  Ellen Allien, Vladimir Ivkovic, Moritz von Oswald, Adam X,  Lena Willikens, Solar, Kim Ann Foxman, Curses, Perel, Phase Fatale, Lindstrom, Interstellar Funk, Tornado Wallace, Franz Scala, Khidja, and lots more, in top underground venues in the US, Mexico, and Europe.

Facets is also the founder of Samo Records and Samo Nights, the club night associated with the label. Over the years, he has booked the likes of Black Merlin, Manfredas, Joakim, Jex Opolis, Zombies in Miami, Sacha Mambo, Wrecked, DatKat (Analog Soul), Sharlese, Hugo Capablanca, In Flagranti, DJ Overdose, Patrick Russell, Sharif Laffrey, Jellyfish and more.

Additionally, Facets founded Italomatic, Brooklyn’s premier italo-disco, new wave, freestyle, and synth party, alongside Andi (Synthicide) and Rok One.

We highly recommend Cat Gadget, who is part of the Grrrls DJ crew since 2018 in Graz, Austria. Her penchant for vinyl records, which she has been collecting since youth, was at some point the deciding factor for her to start DJing. Her vinyl only sets are strongly influenced by Synthwave, Electro, Italo Disco, EBM, Dark Wave and Electropop. Guest mix no. 94 is the perfect outcome of her influences. The immersion into the world of sound magic of St.Ego begins with the track "If You Want Me Too".
