When I think of degrowth in music, numerous labels and collectives from around the world come to mind—from Detroit to the UK to the Bay Area. Electronic dance music is inherently rooted in degrowth principles, yet I've watched its rise nearly overshadow these pure origins. Despite this reality, both young and established producers still maintain the spirit of degrowth throughout their work. Historically Bay Area labels like Grayhound Recordings or Squirrels on Film created something uniquely special entirely on their own, while newer labels like No Bias have successfully embodied degrowth values and have paved their own way in the music industry. This mix represents the necessary chaos required to destroy old structures and build new ones. I believe DIY culture is essential for creating better structures than those that came before us. This mix celebrates that idea, featuring some local Bay Area artists alongside others from around the world who operate outside big institutions. Hope you enjoy it.
