Piano Dans La Nuit

The Pièces froides are two sets of piano pieces composed in March 1897 by Erik Satie. Unpublished until 1912 when Ravel played them publicly, they marked Satie's break from the mystical-religious music of his Rosicrucian and Gymnopodies period (1891–95), and were a harbinger of his humoristic piano suites of the 1910s. 

The title Pièces froides, translated as Cold Rooms or Cold Cuts, is a punning allusion to the dire poverty Satie experienced during his last years living in Montmartre. In July 1896, he had been forced to move into an unheated ground floor closet (he called it a "cupboard”. The space was so small that Satie's camp bed all but blocked the door shut, and on frigid nights he kept warm by sleeping fully dressed with the rest of his clothing piled on top of him.

This is a dark one - so a disclaimer for my listeners - one of my inspirations for this was from the thought experiment "Imagine one hand clapping" that we use in yoga or meditation practice, mixed with the idea of "Unstruck" - The word associated with the heart. The Unstruck Sound. - A beautiful way of thinking of it. 
So mixing these ideas - makes it fairly straightforward to produce a love song featuring (what I hope is ) a fairly accurate portrayal of what love can sometimes feel like - in all its complexity.

The Eclectic Collective -- composition

This song began, as so many of ours do, with JJ coming up with the skeleton of it on his electric piano, organ, and synth during one of his Saturday night jam sessions. He originally laid down a bass line for it, too, which might be better than what I came up with, But he was kind enough to let me in on it, too, adding my four string fretless bass on top of Ken's intricate, lively drums.
  Once the rhythm section was complete, it was time for Stephen and Tez to add their guitar magic to the mix, too. They both laid down some thrilling guitar lines throughout. Lastly, I added the spooky synth theremin you hear throughout.
  When it was all finished and in the can, we asked Stephen to mix it for us, which he did in a professional manner. He also added the creepy sound effects you hear throughout, as well. 
  This song is an example of how the Eclectic Collective can take a idea from one of us, and make it grow into a monster. Speaking of monsters, we decided to release this a day early to coincide with the holiday. Happy Halloween from The Eclectic Collective! We hope you enjoy listening to this song as much as we enjoyed creating it.
