Crudely piggybacking onto the overly commercialised national day of love with some outrageously sick new-gen drum & bass talent: 1 More Thing invites Elder to the 1 More Mix series with a special Valentines mix. 

Special being the key word here, not valentines… This mix is far too fire to be relevant on just one day. But with his debut EP dropping last Friday, and it being called Love and all, the connection was just too strong to ignore. Especially when the EP marks the return of the mighty Pick N Mix label. 

In hibernation mode for the last year while the eminent bossman TJ took a little recalibration time out of the drum & bass game, Pick N Mix is back and loaded with more fondant fire than ever before. One of the most successful and iconic labels of the new D&B generation, Pick N Mix have been responsible for aiding and abetting the careers of so many new artists since it launched – Vital, Blckhry, Bunnerz, Enta, Sota, Jammez, Hexa, Parallel, Refracta and many more including Elder himself.

Dave Columbo Jenkins is the shiny finished product, the friendly host, the clued up interviewer, the public-facing consummate professional.... 

NODAVE is the greasy, oily engine that powers it all. Revving away behind the scenes 24/7, spuffing out toxic fumes and oil slicks everywhere.   

NODAVE is the part of my brain that keeps me up all night fizzing with ideas. He tells me everything is amazing and everything is shit, often at the same time. He wants to listen to every favourite tune and every exciting new tune he's yet to hear... All at the same time. 

NODAVE wants to do everything right at this minute without even checking if it's safe or practical. NODAVE is the fire that will never go out.

And this is how he sounds musically. 

To celebrate the fact we've hit mix number 50 since launching 1 More Thing officially last June, I've taken on this one myself. The last time I was making mixes and sharing them on forums (via CDs in the post) Soundcloud didn't even exist! 

It's sketchy, hyperactive and very wobbly in various places. I don't sync. I don't mix in key. And quite frankly it shows. But shheeesh I own some absolute bangers!

Coming from the Barrett Road palace we have the seasonal park up specialist Doober! If you are ever looking for the man you will find him vape in hand parked up in the lounge 80% of the time. The other 20% he will be surfing absolute barrels, he been known to slay tubes, some would call him a tube pig. Surfing has always been his passion and now he has ventured into something less weather dependent which is playing filthy minimal tunes. When he does play though he somewhat creates a storm above him which changes the weather pattern within the region. Doober has been working on this mix for roughly 3 months which is the direct reasoning for this stormy weather. Now he has finished the local population can rejoice alas the sunny weather will now begin.

Spanish producer Hor-G joins the label with “El Guerrero”, a showcase of his skill in the realm of broken rhythms and sonic experimentation.

After releasing several works rooted in a more techno-oriented line, Hor-G now delves into his less orthodox ideas, displaying a sharp talent for hybridizing styles. Electro, halftime, and acid influences merge to create a piece rich in texture, distortion, and energy, moving fluidly between 145 and 185 bpm.

As the artist himself puts it: “El Guerrero” is far more than a demo — it’s a statement of intent from the ever-restless HOR-G.
