Ahhh.. 1995, what a year! Progressive house was undergoing a major change, tracks were stretching production skills and limits to new levels... let alone durations! The term "Epic House" was invented to describe the often 10+ minute long records being produced by artists like Blue Amazon, BT, Brothers In Rhythm and of course, Sasha. Clubs were packed out every weekend up and down the country - any old farmers town could put on a 'club night' and expect to see punters cueing to get in. For me, this era of clubbing was my nirvana, my wonderland, my true halcyon days. 

The mix contains some of my personal favourites from 95-96, and anyone who knew me back then will know I played these records to death. Blue Amazon, Hardfloor, BT, and Moby all feature in the mix, along with labels like Jackpot, Perfecto, and many more.

If you were part of the 95-96 club explosion, I hope some of these records remind you of just how invincible we all were. If you missed out back then, sit back, turn off the lights, turn up the music and imagine what it was like in the middle of a sweaty dancefloor!

As always, this was mixed on two Technics 1210's and an Allen & Heath mixer.

Stubbzie's Progressive House Classics Mix 9 (1995-96)

Some of my favorite progressive house tunes from around late 1993/ 1994. Back then I was a regular at clubs like Golden, Swoon, Naughty But Nice, and Lakota. I was also mesmerized  by mix tapes coming out around the time from DJ's like Digweed, Sasha, Nick Warren, Dave Seaman and loads of resident DJ's who never quite got the same acknowledgement as the headliners (I can remember resident DJ Grayson Shipley playing a set at Lakota in Bristol that would give any big name prog DJ a run for their money back in 1994!).

As always, I've mixed this on two Technics 1210's and an Allen & Heath Xone 22 Mixer just as God intended - No computer trickery or magic sync'ing allowed..

Mix number 4 of my favorite tracks from the progressive house scene circa 1993/1994. Hugely influenced by Sasha & Digweed mix tapes, producers like Spooky, Ramp, Kris Needs and the early European trance sound along with club nights like Renaissance, Swoon, and Golden.

Mix 5 in my series of personal favorites from the mid 90's progressive house scene. Featuring artists including Tilt, Way Out West, BT & Slacker, this mix contains some of my very hazy memories from dancefloors/ clubs like Lakota in Bristol, Que Club in Birmingham, Golden and Swoon, both in Stoke. 

As with all my 'classics' mixes, no DJ software was used back then, just two turntables and a bog standard mixer. I hope you enjoy! 

Stubbzie's Progressive House Classics Mix 5 (1995-96)

The Essential Mix is a weekly radio show on BBC Radio 1 currently broadcast between 0:00 - 2:00 AM UK time on Saturday morning. Originally broadcast on 30 October 1993, the Essential Mix features contemporary DJs and music producers of electronic dance music. The show has been presented since its inception by Pete Tong and features an uninterrupted two-hour mix from a different artist each week, overlaid with occasional continuity announcements delivered by Tong. With a broadcast run in excess of 25 years, the Essential Mix is one of the longest-running programmes in the current BBC Radio 1 schedule, and is one of very few Radio 1 shows which is not broadcast live.
