Nice one, fellow Bitwigger... some common ground in what we did though I used devices outside the Grid, e.g. Replacers, etc.

Written for Disquiet Junto 0579. Ran out of time, of course, but tried to revisit a track that I previously made in 1993 using OctaMED ( https://soundcloud.com/floor-51/betrayal ) . Still prefer the original, but with a bit more time I think this mix could be ok. I'm not so keen on using the 1984 samples - actually lower quality here than the ones I was playing on the Amiga, I think - but it didn't seem honest to revisit the track without them.

For this week's Junto we were asked to use a field recording:

As soon as I heard it I got a tribal vibe from it, like an indigenous ceremony. I added a field recording of the constant flood of honey bees in the native Renga Renga plants in my garden and the track became a ceremonial mourning for the bees. A few other bits of recorded percussion and edited parts of the 'helsinki-downspout' recording then some synthesised drones were added to give a mournful claustrophobic feel. Let us not lose the bees.

Apis::Memoriam - Disquiet0581

The original sample by Scott Fletcher (https://soundcloud.com/disquiet/helsinki-downspout - used with permission under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-ShareAlike 3.0 Unported (CC BY-NC-SA 3.0) licence), had an envelope follower applied and sent as CV to my modular, which also sent clock to a BeatStep Pro controlling a Volca Sample. A Turing machine was used to drive a Pluck triggered by the original stem. Similarly the Volca Sample was triggered by the BSP which was in turn triggered by the sample. Other recordings of various beats were made then manipulated, notably with Devious Machines' Infiltrator2. As has become usual, I used Felt Instruments' Smugi sequenced filter bank as part of my processing.

Here I used the provided recording of a dripping downspout. Using Bitwig's FX grid, I used this recording unaltered to provide the rhythm and tempo. With the grid, I could trigger a few different oscillators based  on when the drip sound crossed a loudness threshold.  I split the signal and passed each though different gate lengths, this dictated the frequency with which each gate could trigger a new note. Notes were pulled from a pool of choices, mostly randomly, in F minor.
