I've have had the privilege and honor of working with some really great pieces of music from incredible artists here on SoundCloud. These were complete instrumental compositions that I created lyrics and the vocal track(s) for. Generally there is no modification to the original piece of music, and I usually base the lyric on the pre-existing song title. The talented original artists are engaged on the recordings and new product, and best of all allowed it to be shared with you.  I enjoy these type of collaborations.  I also would be happy to have other vocalists deliver my lyrics.

Hiding

I wrote this song from the perspective of one of those heroic astronauts, on the launch pad, reflecting on how we got there, and what they'll be returning to if they are fortunate enough to make it back.   Its a nice song and lyric, maybe I'll finish it before we visit again.

The Race - 1st50

Back In The Day

Original https://soundcloud.com/1st50  track from 2012.  In this version Anders Moberg (https://soundcloud.com/anders-moberg-1) has lent his fabulous guitar skills and tone.  This gives it a proggier feel which is how it was envisioned, so I've completely removed my piano in favor of his 2 guitar tracks.   I added a simple bass track and tweaked the vocals and the song is re-incarnated here in Nov 2014.

The tune answers the 3 big questions, where did we come from, where do we go when we die, and how it all fits together.   Based on and inspired by some wild PBS science shows I saw back then.

This was my first collaboration, I wrote these lyrics and recorded my vocal over a wonderful pre-existing music track from Mathias De l'air called 1515.  Though Mathias was fine to change the title, I figured it was mysterious enough, and sort of fit the mysterious nature of the intro.    Hope you enjoy it!

So here's the story... Michael from http://soundcloud.com/the-upstairs-corner wakes up one morning says he felt he had to record a tribute to Ronnie Van Zant (Lynyrd Skynyrd fame).  I am a fan (who isnt?), I hear this thing and I just start singing about Ronnie... so I downloaded Mike's tribute music, wrote these lyrics, he liked what he heard and so here is our little tribute.    You know Ronnie would have been 65 years old on Jan 15 this year.  And on that day this year the surviving members (and there are too few these days) will be at the Beacon in NYC.   Gotta get there...   In the mean time, thanks Michael from The Upstairs Room for this fine tribute piece of music! When I heard this instrumental track I was blown away.  What an amazing song by phenomenal band.   A three and half minute epic that takes you on a fantastic journey with all sorts of wonderful twists and turns.  Like a series of doors opening but you don't know what's on the other side, and each presents new opportunities as you pass through, taking you to a new place.  I created this lyric simply off the title they had given the song (Open Doors).  The song is really well crafted and the musicianship is excellent.   In the ultimate irony,  I didn’t know at the time I was writing lyrics and recording the vocals, the group was in fact disbanding.   So that door closed, but here’s what I heard inside that great piece of music back in Sept of 2012…

Dear SoundCloud friends,

Having surpassed 600 followers on SC I wanted to offer my sincere thanks to those of you who take the few minutes to listen and comment on my musical posts.  It is greatly appreciated!

I'm a songwriter, self taught musician and music lover of all genres.  I listen to a lot of Progressive and Alternative Rock, and explore many of the respective sub-genres.  I also listen to Indie artists, and I think some of the most creative stuff emerges there.  I am knowledgeable on the history of Rock and Pop music, even Jazz and Big Band.  I believe you will hear aspects of all these things in my music.  While I am a big fan of a number of artists, it’s songs that captivate me. The atmosphere created, the stories shared, and the emotions conveyed or evoked.

Songs really matter to me.
