A pleasure to hear this mix by La Serpiente (Marco Segato). We’ve been in touch years back when I was booking the first Zaliva-D European tour.  Marco brought Zaliva-D to the, now permanently closed, Macao in Milano.  His journey in life brought him recently to Amsterdam. 

Marco Segato is a sonic explorer, producer and live performer currently based in Amsterdam, Netherlands. He's the co-founder of Rete Neurale Milano E.S.T. - an event born in the infamous Milanese multi-cultural space Macao - and curator of the mix series Empty Signal Transmission. He has been a Red Bull Music Academy alumnus in 2016 in Montréal (Canada) and graduated in Audio Production at SAE Institute Milan in 2017. During the last years Marco released his music under four different monikers: La Serpiente, MS, Narvalos (with Alessio Costantino) & eoobe (with Elina Tapio). Across these projects his sound maintains a sense of mysticism brewing with eerie tension, influenced and incorporating sounds of broken beats, post-industrial experimentations, and ritualistic elements to conjure psychic immersion. He produces and performs live sets with a combination of analogue and digital hardware, with a sonic outcome that is always saturating the mind with extra-musical ideas.

"The two most powerful warriors are patience and time.”, one well-known writer once said. And for the new Birds entry, I welcome @philipp-otterbach, long-time record collector of all kinds of music, DJ and producer, who would approve his words. For a long while he devotes himself with endurance to music. During the 2000s, he threw some forward-looking dances with his old buddy Vladimir Ivkovic in the German Ruhr region. And when Düsseldorf’s shrine for outer-national grooves Salon Des Amateurs opened in 2004, Otterbach became a one of the first residents. Since 2014 he is also out there with his very own sound, releasing EPs on labels like adventurous Dutch Knekelhuis, Themes for Great Cities, Brokntoys etc. In 2020 he dropped his debut album 'Everything Else Matters' on R.I.O.  followed by "The Dahlem Diaries" on Music From Memory Nowadays (2023) and "Correct me if I am incorrectly you" on Offen (2023). Listening to one of Philipp's DJ sets is like shuffling through an imaginary library. His musical language follows an intertwined logic of emotional affects, ineffable magic and endless fantasy. A man for suspenseful storytelling that likes to melt early electronic music, Krautrock, minimalism, and all sorts of tribal rhythms with eclectic voodoo dance, psychedelic guitar tsunami’s, house, techno and electro - always beautifully entangled with a precise feeling for special funk dynamics. This one is another great example of these antics too. Let the mind fly with the birds!

Birdcast 037: Philipp Otterbach

Julianna has specialised in the fusion of percussion and melody, exploring genres and bringing together old school with the new gems of the future: techno-breaks, trip-funk and house to create unique sound experiences. 

Her DJ sets stand out for her ability to create fluid transitions between genres, guiding the audience on a musical trance journey that reflects her artistic vision within the national electronic scene. She has been an active part of the Colombian electronic music scene for more than 15 years,
collaborating in different important projects in the region from activism to curational nights and has been performing in institutions such as Berghain, Tresor and Robert Jhonson, as well as throughout Europe, the United States, North, Central and South America.

She is currently leading the BAMBA project, which aims to inspire future generations to explore the infinite possibilities of sound on the dance floor in conjunction with communities.

After closing our recent event at 90mil for Slowfoam's album launch, André set about to capture the essence of his set and the evening into a new mix for us.

Reflecting back, it was truly special to see the coming together of such diverse social spheres and how quickly all was broken down in the atmosphere of Andre's music. At the core, his sets are a total celebration of life, an invitation to dance no matter how undanceable or mysterious the song. Music you’ve never heard becomes the music you’ve known all your life.

Across fluctuating tension and rhythm, all sorts of worlds intertwine… digi-dub morphs to acid to avant-folk in perfect harmony. But what stands out most is the pure admiration for DIY music; it’s the curation of a tender heart, finding the purest of souls in the strangest of music. 

Towards the close of this wonderful set, Laurie Anderson recalls ‘I remember where I came from, there were tropical breezes and a wide open sea, I remember my childhood, I remember being free.’ It’s a sentiment that embodies the experience of André music, an invitation to be utterly lost in the most beautiful ephemeral moment, that melancholy-tinged euphoria in the instant before it’s all over, stretched out for eternity.

In this episode of IRIY.Frequencies we spotlight Wisdom Teeth (@wisdomteeth-uk), the groundbreaking London-based label founded by K-Lone and Facta.

The label emerged during the post-dubstep fallout when the London club scene was oversaturated with dubstep and Garage tracks, prompting crowds to shift towards more German-sounding techno. Wisdom Teeth was one of the first labels to merge classical UK sound's bass-heavy, broken rhythms with industrial techno. However, the label began incorporating more experimental and ambient sounds after a few releases, eventually becoming quintessentially left field.
