Indigo Aera is rebooting its ÆX limited whitelabel series after 3 years of silence. This new release aex016 marks the start of a new run of various artist ep’s with the familiar recipe: dancefloor oriented dj tools drawing inspiration from the more classic side of techno.

The release includes 2 new names to the label: the A1 track from Malin Genie is a true homage to the percussive tribal techno era in the ‘90s. The A2 from Anna Kost, is a strong electro / house hybrid which builds on a strong flowing breakbeat. A3 is pure melodic Detroit styled dub, from Ivano Tetelepta, who simply never disappoints and always delivers the highest standard. The final two “last but not least” tracks are solo productions from labelheads Jasper Wolff and Maarten Mittendorff.

The Brighton-based producer and creative mastermind, @Caldera-caldera, lets us delve into his multi-faceted personality with his new EP, 5D Worlds. No VR set needed, Caldera follows the chant of the sirens and the shamanic incantations but never directly references them: a psychoactive journey without the psychedelics. Caldera’s 5D Worlds is a hyperreal ride, from his signature dubby grooves to his lesser known Tech-Trance whopper fantasies – As the BPM evolves, the sound designs morph and the gentle percussion give way to sonar-like synths and binary rhythms. Deep, trippy and hypnotic. That pretty much sums up the new Nacreous-EP by Shoal on the Dutch imprint NOWHERE. The title refers to a certain glow or color that mother-of-pearl radiates. Shoal is the alter ego of Utrecht-resident Kenny Dean Kneefel. When you have a name that sounds like a famous stuntman, you are probably prepared to take more risks.

And indeed that's exactly what this producer from the lowlands does on Nacreous. Shoal's four track EP combines hallucinant grooves with delicate sound design. Like on Bygone Drums, where ominous distant sounds from a nearby factory creep between the shadows. The same can be said of the title track, a tribalistic tune with a delicate dark undertone.

Never Endings is more uplifting, with its dubbed out basslines and crispy hi-hats. Dubtechno that reminds us of both Monolake and Fluxion. Closing track Morning Float is indeed that, a trip in a blue tank filled with warm water, where you are comforted by beautiful strings and sounds of nature.

New! What, an adjective. Entirely subjective, or objective depending on your perspective. The harbinger of quality perhaps, or simply that of a flash of brilliance, gone quicker than the blink of an eye. New can be used for many things, however, today’s focus of an oft favorite adjective falls on the shoulders of Melbourne based DJ, and producer, Kia, her label, and a cadre of fellow artists. 

Animalia as a label is new in every sense of the word, and in every sense, the best possible. Much like her mixes, Kia has curated an intricate selection from the thriving Melbourne scene that ticks every box for a burgeoning label. A proverbial shot across the musical bow if you will.

Our shot for today comes in the form of Dashiell & Sam Brickel and ‘Run Out Groove’. Nestled nicely among the other breakish tunes of Animalia 001, ‘Run Out Groove’ provides just as the name implies. Grooves with undulating synths and flashy acid highlights, persisting throughout to provide a top tier atmosphere. We’ll be watching, with ears wide open here at Delayed for what new things come out of Animalia, and we hope you do as well.
