Mad, meticulous and playful five-tracker out of Bristol - TIP!!!

Patrick Tipler, known as Delay Grounds is a Bristol-based experimental sound artist, producer and composer. His music incorporates elements of abstract, sample-based percussion, experimental synthesis and techno.

Having played in various musical outfits over the last 10 years, Patrick decided to go solo in 2017 to nurture his individual relationship with sound, while developing a fresh abstract perspective on electronic & techno music.

Delay Grounds explains “Dance music has become a focal point for me creatively over the last few years and has pretty much taken over my life. A dance floor can serve as a temporary alternative version of reality, one where people are given the opportunity to let go. I want this to be reflected in the sound materials I used to produce my EP -a platform for expression with a purity of purpose that is open for interpretation and is being refreshingly reinvented constantly.”

While adding, “I am compelled to work with abstraction, focusing my creative energy toward the production of sounds that simultaneously respect the form and purity of dance music, while attempting to develop a fresh perspective.”

‘Upcycling’ is the embodiment of this philosophy. A 5 track EP, in which Delay Grounds collaborates with the artist, Liz Naden, to create electronic music, intertwined with the sounds of Naden’s unique sculptures.

The tracks and sculptures alike are made from rubbish found in skips, yet manipulated into eye-catching sculptures and organic sounds. The project embodies abstract hyper-realism within the material of the works to encourage a forward-thinking attitude, Upcycling the traditional artistic mediums into a means of communication.

Delay Grounds reveals, “Working with Liz on Upcycling has helped to develop my understanding of what a collaboration can be and how a collaboration can work, each piece had to be conceptually and aesthetically congruent.”

It were as if she were floating, drifting between the clouds as they danced against a backdrop of radiant blue. They serenaded her as he drew closer towards the earth down below. Nobody had ever told her it might feel like this, a weightless heaven in which her wildest dreams could soar high upon the breeze. She wondered if she might ever hit the ground and hoped that this freefall might last a lifetime... 

Dream-E is a Glaswegian producer and DJ based in Berlin. Last year he was diagnosed with a very rare but severe brain infection called Encephalitis. He is still in recovery but has since started a label to release his own music with funds raised from the releases going towards The Encephalitis Society Charity - an organisation that helps those and their families less fortunate than he.

OS Premiere's kick off with the title track from a debut series of releases on Will Lister's new label Heald Recordings. It's the first of 6 tracks being released over the course of 3 months which equate to a mini LP. We've not heard much like this from Will before, really fresh sounding electronics, with a heavy focus on atmosphere and sonics rooted in the club. This particular track builds rather emotively and is such an aural pleasure! Wicked stuff!
