'Batholith' and 'The Road To God' are the band's oldest songs, having been written decades before the band was formed. Nathan wrote 'Batholith' and Zac wrote 'The Road To God. The latter was recorded at the last minute during the 'Batholith' session. Both songs are single live takes of the band with no overdubs or editing, with all instruments and amplifiers in a single room.  

These are the first recordings that were not complete D.I.Y. affairs; a brief but unique perspective captured during a transitional stage. The result is a band performing in a quality room with precision mic placement and engineered by someone at top of their game. This experience is the first step in a larger journey that all parties intend to continue.

Fingerless - Scarborough

My debut live set as Lite Fails. This performance took place at Barbara on Warner in Brisbane, on 7 November 2019.

This set was 100% improvised, based on a collection of field recordings I assembled while travelling through Nepal in May 2019. The live set is unedited and unmastered.

All synthesizer patches were created from samples of a bell that I purchased in Thamel, Kathmandu on the same trip. 

This set is intended as a sonic travelogue, a journey through the ears of an outsider, encountering a new and unfamiliar world. It is not my place to make any claims for or on behalf of Nepali sound-worlds. 

Thanks to Mat Burton and James E. Walker for feedback on constructing my set, and to Darcy Burgin for inviting me to perform for the first time. Thanks also to Doxa, LouLou and Bridget Brandolini for sharing the stage with me. I'm indebted to all the dear friends who gave me the support and encouragement to finally share my solo music.

‘Rules That Won’t be Broken’ sets the central theme for Requin’s upcoming debut album ‘Shark’. The title of the song is taken from a poem written by singer Fionn Richards that refers to the brittle barriers of safety that one often doesn’t realise are being taken for granted. The song (and album) speaks to the shock and subsequent ripple effects that occur when someone repeatedly crosses these assumed barriers. The notable, repeated chorus refrain, “I can’t be the same” serves a dual meaning - referring both to the subject’s desire to never be like their bully and their desire to learn to change so it does not happen again.
