Frightwig Herstory Bio

Birthed in 1982 by Deanna Ashley and Mia d’Bruzzi, Frightwig templated the Punk Fem phenomenon that followed over a decade later. Funny, funky and furious, Frightwig produced the full-length albums Cat Farm Faboo (Subterranean Records 1984) and Faster Frightwig Kill Kill (Caroline Records 1986), as well as the EP Phone Sexy (Boner Records 1988). The first two LPs were re-released as the double album Wild Women Never Die… (Southern Records 1994). Frightwig has widely been credited as one of the most original, intense and fearless feminist bands by musicians, critics and fans alike.
After taking a hiatus from live performance, Frightwig has now returned with a vengeance to the center stage. Presenting an all-star line-up which features founding members Deanna Ashley (the Mouthiest Woman Alive) on bass, “they broke the mold” Mia d’Bruzzi on guitar and secret weapon “Saint” Cecilia Kuhn on drums. Oh, and here’s the kicker (oh, the shock and horror!), a real man!!! But this is not just any man, this is the legendary Eric Drew Feldman who has recorded, performed, produced and toured with Captain Beefheart, Snakefinger, Frank Black, Pere Ubu, PJ Harvey and Knife & Fork amongst others. Eric plays keyboards, has been known to sport both a tiara and a tuxedo, and has produced and played on Frightwig's EP Hit Return 2013, the War On Women/Hear What I Say single on vinyl, 2014. Frightwig has never sounded better.

The original music of San Francisco's The Insufferables has been described as a mashup of The Pixies, the Doors, and Belle and Sebastian. They present jangle and crunch guitars, and unusually articulate vocals.  

Lead singer, Keith MacNamara, is an unfrozen caveman story-teller and bartender has a distinctive voice and a fun stage personna.
Carolyn Crampton, formerly guitarist for the seminal, all-girl punk bands, The Profalactics (Colorado) and The Varve (Colorado and San Francisco), plays rhythm guitar as much like Johnny Ramone as possible, as well as some eclectic stuff. 
Gene Michal, a professional biomedical engineer, formerly played classical guitar mostly for his cat and now plays leads and jangle fills. 
Ram Fenster, who settles all the arguments, plays bass, rhythm guitar, and backup vocals. It's he, ranting, on Doorman's Lament.
The band snapped up drummer Kevin Anderson when he moved from Fresno to the bay area. He's still driving a long way to practice but gets there an hour before everyone else.

The songs:
The Insufferables are close to releasing the full length “Argument Clinic,”which features songs about love, politics and fine dining. This time, Keith added a vocal track an octave lower on “Cool Crazy”and“All the Time in the World”, Gene used his acoustic guitar skills on “F.B.I.” and “Charlie Brown”,  Carolyn played organ and used Tiny Telephone huge plate reverb on “The Thing”. One final touch was adding other voices to the end of “Octopus”, which makes it sound like a pub song and could be our favorite song of all. Songwriting is usually started by one band member and finished by all.“Edge of Control” was released in 2014 and “Fire Bad!!” was released in 2013. Both EP's are available for sale on itunes, and for streaming on all over the internet.

Live shows: at Bottom of the Hill, Milk Bar, Red Devil Lounge, Uptown Lounge, Stork Club, Neck of the Woods, Kimos, Elbo Room, Public Works, and others.

The Insufferables also has a sister band which is a tribute band for The Cramps: The Cramp-ons.

It’s OK! is/are: Robert Hecker (chameleon-voiced guitar guru, Redd Kross), Ellen Rooney (five-octave chanteuse), Dennis McGarry (eight-string bass & three-piece suit), & Roy McDonald (transcendent percussion, The Muffs & Redd Kross). Individually, they can all stand as shred-lords, but collectively, they make a beautiful, hyper melodic (& harmonic) sound. 

It’s OK! have released four sixteen-song albums on Econoclast Recordings, each & every one of them a triumph of eclecticism. It’s OK! have been compared to Queen, Guided By Voices, Poi Dog Pondering, Velvet Underground, Leonard Cohen, the Ink Spots, the BellRays, & A Giant Dog, to mention just a few. “We like all different kinds & sorts of music, so we write all different kinds & sorts of songs.” The band have completed their fifth sixteen-song album, ‘Product Of California’, due to be released physically on 3/25/2025, & digitally on 4/1/2025: spotify:album:3z8uWPtjyrg6MdQVUiq2Du 

From the delirious guitar shred of the opening track (‘Hold My Tea’) to instant rock classics steeped in the ‘70s (‘Here She Comes Again’, “Be Strong’) to poignant power pop (‘Home’, ‘To Beg You’) to modern standards (‘Siren’s Lament’), ‘Product Of California’ covers all of the bases, & more, including a title track that would make Woody Guthrie proud.
